On March 15th, with support from AWDF, and Womankind Worldwide, the Rozaria Memorial Trust, and CREAW, in collaboration with CRAWN Trust hosted an empowering event on the sidelines of CSW69 in New York, celebrating Kenyan women's contributions to the nation's growth. During the event there was a screening of A Legacy of Strength, a documentary that showcases the powerful contributions of women in shaping Kenya's progress from pre-independence to date.
During the event highlights from Shadow Report on Kenya’s progress at Beijing+30 were shared providing reflections on the country's progress towards gender equality and the challenges women still face.
While celebrating these remarkable achievements, the event also centered on the importance of bridging the generational divide. The need for stronger collaboration between older and younger women was emphasized to address existing gaps in leadership, economic empowerment, and to overcome systemic barriers.
This powerful side event was attended by the Secretary to the Cabinet Dr. Mercy Wanjau, PS Gender and Affirmative Action Hon. Anne Wang’ombe. Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, Dr. Jennifer Riria of the Echo Network among other distinguished guests from Zimbabwe and other parts of the world.
The women reignited a call for sustained action toward achieving equal opportunities for all. It served as an important reminder of the progress made, while underscoring the work that remains to create a more inclusive and equitable future for women in Kenya.
