Patients with complex injuries are getting a new lease on life at the specialized Al Amal PRCS rehabilitation hospital in #Gaza, established with @WHO support. With support from @CanadaDev, WHO is working to meet the rehabilitation needs of patients, providing essential assistive devices including wheelchairs, crutches, prosthetic limbs, and walking aids. WHO and @CanadaDev are also investing in the people behind the care, delivering multidisciplinary rehabilitation training to local health workers, including physiotherapists, nurses, and psychological counsellors, to strengthen and sustain rehabilitation services for the long term. The need could not be more urgent. Over 43,000 people in Gaza have sustained life-changing injuries requiring rehabilitation. Yet despite ongoing efforts, only one third of the need for assistive devices has been met, and access remains a critical barrier with essential supplies continuing to face denial at entry points. Assistive devices must be allowed into Gaza at scale and without delay. WHO reiterates its call for unimpeded humanitarian access and the unrestricted movement of essential medicines and medical supplies into Gaza.
