I'd trade Sanders and every 'progressive' in Congress for Clare Daly just so we could have at least ONE person with the courage to stand up and tell the truth.

The world's most powerful government extraditing a journalist for telling the truth is so self-evidently tyrannical and depraved that opposing it is the only valid position. It's one of those issues like slavery or child rape where there is no legitimate other side of the debate.

We don’t need redundant councils with no legislative mandate or budget. We need to make participation in existing institutional structures effective.

@ClaudiaChwalisz @NoemaMag You said the Paris CA is “quietly changing Parisian democracy.” What specifically do you mean by that? We’ve seen some CAs in the past fail & a few success to deliver public “goods.”

When it’s first come first serve or loudest/richest voice gets heard, the typical “town hall” style participation or Monday nite city council meetings, participation tends to REPRODUCE existing inequalities or turn performative.

@ClaudiaChwalisz @NoemaMag A little civics education for young people would go a long way. The US has extremely robust local governance structures in place already; people just don’t know about them or how to participate.

Most of the people telling you “you don’t understand how the system works” are the same people who have been sitting there watching it fail for decades. So maybe what they understand about the system isn’t as valuable as they think it is.
