ChatGPT already had file-aware workflows before GPT-5.5: File Library, larger pastes as attachments, Google Drive/Docs/Sheets/Slides connector unification, and deep research with connected sources were all in release notes before April 23. What GPT-5.5 changes is the level of autonomy and reliability: OpenAI says it can now understand complex goals, use tools, check its work, and turn raw material into polished artifacts like documents, spreadsheets, slides, reports, research summaries, and plans.
