if a founder ran 2x projects to 9 figs and coinbase listings, and still needs to deploy new tokens, I’d say he’s either a gambling addict or really bad with risk management

there’s people thinking “the trenches” are mad because they lost money on the coinbase man token
and yeah, some of them are. that’s fair. losing money sucks
but that’s not what this is about
the trenches are mad because the CEO of the biggest crypto company in america told them they’re not his focus. they’re mad because jesse spent 2 years using them as a testing ground for ideas nobody asked for. they’re mad because they showed up every day (deploying, trading, providing liquidity, building dashboards, creating content, onboarding friends) and the people running the chain couldn’t even be bothered to pay attention
the trenches aren’t memecoin flippers begging for pumps. they’re the users who made base’s metrics possible. the ones who gave the chain the numbers coinbase puts in their earnings reports. and they just got told, publicly, by the CEO himself, that they don’t matter
that’s not about a token going to zero. that’s about finding out the chain you chose, the ecosystem you invested your time and energy into, never cared about you in the first place

the biggest lie in crypto is “we’re building for our users”
every B2C product says it. almost none of them mean it. they build for metrics, for fundraising decks, for quarterly reports. the “C” in B2C is a data point, not a person. 100M users sounds great in an earnings call. it means nothing if those users are just a number you report to shareholders
and when they say “the trenches aren’t my focus”, they don’t even understand what they’re dismissing. the trenches aren’t just memecoin flippers. the trenches are the people who show up every single day. the ones who deploy contracts, provide liquidity, test new protocols, file bug reports, build dashboards, create content, onboard their friends. the ones who generate the volume, the fees, the daily active users, the metrics that make the quarterly report look good
the trenches are your power users. the ones who chose your chain over every other option and showed up when nobody else did. saying they’re not your focus is saying the people who actually use your product aren’t your priority. try saying that at any other company and see how long you last
you can tell who actually cares by how they act, not what they say. do they listen when the community gives feedback or ignore it for years and admit they were wrong after everyone already left? do they build what users ask for or push experiments nobody wanted? do they show up in the trenches with their community or post disclaimers from an ivory tower?
two platforms can have identical metrics (same volume, same fees, same DAUs) and have completely different outcomes. one is worth $16B because it listened from day one, built what the community needed, and made users feel like they mattered. the other has every advantage (brand, capital, users, regulatory position) and is losing ground to competitors that launched weeks ago
because the community can feel when you don’t care. they can’t put it in a quarterly report but they know. and eventually they leave. not loudly. they just stop showing up. and then your 100M users number is just a registration count for wallets that haven’t opened in months
the platforms winning right now have no gap between the team and the community. the builders are in the group chats. feedback becomes features in days. the community doesn’t beg for acknowledgment because the team is already there
the platforms losing have CEOs who say the people actually using their chain aren’t their focus and expect those people to stick around anyway
the consumer always figures it out. you can have every advantage in crypto and still lose to someone who simply showed up and cared

you’re one of the most respected people in crypto. you earned that by being honest, by calling out bullshit when you saw it, by being on the side of the community when it mattered. you literally warned people about luna before it collapsed. that’s your legacy
so why are you standing with them?
you’re joining a team where the CEO says he doesn’t care about the people actually using the chain, the chain lead ignored his community for 18 months and promoted a documented scammer, builders feel gaslit by management, and the biggest token ever built on base wasn’t listed on coinbase for over a year
you saw what happened with content coins. you saw all of it, you’re literally in the replies watching it happen
the crypto community trusts you. that’s rare and it’s valuable. but that trust was built by being independent, not by joining the people the community just told you they don’t trust anymore
if you can genuinely change coinbase from the inside, that would be incredible. base has every advantage: the users, the capital, the infrastructure. it just needs leadership that gives a shit. maybe that’s you
but if you’re walking into a structure where the CEO doesn’t care about the trenches, the chain lead is still in charge after everything he did, and your role is to put a trusted face on an organization that burned its community over and over: then you’re not fixing base. you’re lending your reputation to the people who broke it
and once that reputation is spent, you don’t get it back
we’re rooting for you cobie. genuinely. but the community deserves to know: are you there to change things, or are you there to make us feel better about things that aren’t changing?

whenever you think of trusting base, remember this thread jesse pollak’s coins the head of base used the official coinbase X account to promote “base is for everyone” on zora. it spiked to $17M mcap in an hour. crashed 90% to $1.9M within 20 minutes. people thought it was an official base token. jesse said it was “an experiment” and that he “personally approved the post” months later he launched his own JESSE token through the base app. called it a “creator coin, not a memecoin.” two snipers extracted $1.3M from it within seconds of launch. the token peaked at $25M and dumped. $50M in volume flowed through it and the regular users who trusted the head of base got sniped by bots while he collected LP fees he then used those LP fees to buy other creator coins on zora. so the fees generated from his community getting sniped went to propping up more creator coins that also dumped him and brian promoted tokens linked to balaji srinivasan and other figures. all crashed. one critic pointed out “the same users kept eating the downside on team-promoted tokens.” nobody at base adjusted he endorsed a soulja boy token, a person zachxbt publicly documented running 73+ token promotions, 16 NFT collections, most of them rugs or abandoned, earning $730K+ from paid crypto scams. jesse invested $1,500 and promoted it publicly. zachxbt’s report was from 2023. it was public. the head of base either didn’t bother to check or didn’t care he shared a GIF playing on “base is for everyone” that rotated through the phrases “base is for pimping” and “base is for squirting.” had to publicly apologize. the guy running a coinbase-backed chain, a publicly traded company, posting this to hundreds of thousands of followers after all of this he said base won’t “pump tokens” or “support the chart behind the scenes.” the same person who launched multiple coins that dumped on his community won’t help yours. his charts get LP fees. yours get abandoned the $BRIAN disaster brian armstrong, CEO of coinbase, $50B+ publicly traded company, changed his pfp to a $BRIAN memecoin. 10,000 people bought in. the CEO of the chain is backing it: what could go wrong? he removed the pfp 23 hours later. coin went to zero. 10,000+ people down 99% after trusting the literal CEO 1/3
