@pranobaileybond I was very marked by meeting Joseph Gilgun on the set of Misfits when doing work experience once, he was so kind and welcoming to little old me who was literally there for a day.

I'll never forget delivering Robert Carlisle a coffee when I was a runner—said thank you, took time to ask my ambitions & listen. Made my day. A small gesture but theres another list of ppl who def didn't do that! Be kind on the way up—u don't know who u'll meet on the way down!

Richard E Grant says runners are the most underappreciated people on a film set. The actor says his daughter was treated 'appallingly' by stars when she was a runner. trib.al/dR0OUhb

unpopular opinion but the whole "no drinking" vibe is correlated with a massive spike in social isolation. yes, binge drinking is bad, but going out for a glass of wine or a beer with friends on the regular actually has positive effects that outweigh the negative
health optimization bros cutting alcohol consumption to zero, hitting the gym with headphones on, and going home to empty apartments are the loneliest people on this planet. happy friday

My fellow script editor @MponaLebajoa and I have started a podcast!
It’s called The Denouement and every fortnight we go in deep on the last episode of a recent television series we think more people should be talking about.

@robdelaney When I was in film school, required reading for me that I think is still valuable today and may give you some of the magic you are asking for is "In the Blink of an Eye," by Walter Murch. Classic film school reading for a reason. Enjoy!

Watched The Wizard of Oz without sound yesterday. I watch movies w/out sound sometime because I so habitually think of stories words-first, and obv film uses more than words. Was struck by how rarely it cuts from camera set-up to camera set-up. Camera moves and follows action but very often it’s a wide shot where you see every actor and can pick where you want to focus. And it’s riveting. I didn’t go to film school & I’m wondering if ppl could recommend book(s) about evolution of language of film from early days up to today where we typically see more cutting/coverage/etc. Related, I’m also recalling a scene in Logan Lucky (in a barbershop?) where Soderbergh keeps it in a big wide & lets the scene play out. It was great but I also remember thinking “Whoa, most directors would not do this. Thank you SS for trusting me with your scene.” Anyway thanks in advance for book recs.
