@DanCevette The chirping, flexing, bat flips, pointing etc… it’s out of control in HS and College ball. Not seen in pros .

HS Baseball Players ⚾️ I’ve been around this game a long time, and something’s changed... We’re losing respect for the game. • Chirping after every pitch. • Celebrating routine plays like it’s Game 7 • Trying to embarrass opponents instead of beating them. That’s not toughness. That’s insecurity. 💯 Somewhere along the way, being loud became more important than being good. And the worst part? It’s being allowed. When I came up… • You showed up early. • You handled your business. • You played hard. • You shut your mouth. • If you had something to say… you said it with performance. • And if lines were ever crossed, the players took care of it. The truth: 👇 • Baseball is hard. • You’re going to fail. • You’re going to struggle. • The game doesn’t need more noise… • It needs more respect. • Nobody remembers who chirped. • They remember who showed up. • Who competed. • Who handled adversity. • Who left the game better than they found it. Want to separate yourself? Stop talking. Start working. Respect the game. 💯⚾️

@boldpath @GregBerge 👍👍. Nothing worse than seeing a kid strike out and immediately looking for their parents reaction

@GregBerge Another one is intentionally NOT going to every single practice and game. Allows your kid to interact and take ownership without having their parent monitor every single thing they do

See a parent sitting quietly at a game? Often, that’s the one who gets it. No complaining. No criticizing coaches. No yelling at refs. No drama. Just watching their kid compete. Youth sports need more parents like those. Be part of the solution.

Perhaps America’s least accessible monument (amidst hospitals) is The White House of the Confederacy in Richmond. Built in 1818, it served as the residence and office of Confederate President Jefferson Davis from 1861 to 1865.   #SouthernRoadTrip #19ballparks22days #Travel

@jakeformers @MattMartin3 I don’t think Bubba sucks at racing. I think he has underperformed and not met expectations and isn’t a good a driver as TR.

This isn't true but... If your kid is average or maybe slightly above average having more opportunity for reps in travel ball will help them grow their skills. But when everyone hits puberty things will change drastically. Kids get bigger and stronger, etc... Then of course there are kids who are naturally good and they will make varsity just rolling out of bed.
Jason Helmes@anymanfitness

Bad news, dude: If your kid doesn’t play travel/AAU they have no chance of playing varsity in high school. Only exceptions would be small, rural schools without many players to choose from. Any decent sized high school, every kid on varsity plays travel.

@coachmartin24 I agree. It’s a sad state we’re in and I don’t see it changing. I’m at a point where you as a parent start to question if you’re harming a kid by centering their life around sports and when that dries up they’re left with no childhood left and no skills outside of a sport

This way of thinking is a big part of what has gone completely wrong with youth sports these days. Kids need to be kids and they need to play normal rec league and different sports.

The texts between Conan O’Brien, Will Arnett, and Jason Bateman are somehow both hilarious and weirdly touching. Joking that Bateman killed Conan’s parents is such an absurdly dark way of helping a friend grieve, but you can feel the love underneath it.

Sunday 📖 Alaska Airlines is betting that there's room for a fourth true global airline in America — a bet that this week culminated in the airline's first-ever flight to Europe thepointsguy.com/news/alaska-ai…

@jacobbogage @AmericanAir I'd bet that the standby passengers were fellow employees and friends of the gate agent who was determined to get them onto the flight.

I just watched the weirdest thing, @AmericanAir. In Miami, two women arrived for their flight to Boston with plenty of time to spare. They showed the gate agent their boarding pass. The agent bizarrely said the flight was closed, then seated standby passengers. What on earth?

Airlines must be getting crushed by fuel prices right now - to a point where premium cabin demand is plummeting. Business class SFO to London is $9-12k on United… it’s 2x normal price. This one flight I’m looking at in 3 weeks still has 42 open business seats still - same for all flights that day. Seems like an easy free upgrade clearing…

@MCCCANM 6500 feet of LDA, wide body, gusty winds, approach isn’t straight in, yeah tricky approach and at the end of a long flight. Tough conditions contributing but it’s part of the job. An “unable”’may be appropriate

Looks like there were gusty winds, but I don’t know how to explain this one. If you suddenly lose the gust at approach speed, you lose a lot of lift…but we carry extra speed to account for that. The aim point is usually 1,000’ down the runway, with the flare leaving you touching down around 1,500-1,800’ down the runway (up to 3,000’ is acceptable). If landing on runway 29 at EWR, however, they’d use “Short Field” techniques. The aim point is in the first few hundred feet, and the target for touching down is around 1,000’, but no later than 1,500’ (or you go around). Sorry, I don’t honestly know how this happens. Usually there is a lot of space between the runway threshold & anything else (called an overrun, clearway, etc.) but it doesn’t appear to be the case here.

JUST IN: Baltimore bakery truck struck by a United Airlines plane coming in for a landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey. According to local reports, the plane was a United Airlines Boeing 767-400. Senior vice president of Transportation & Logistics at H&S Bakery, Chuck Paterakis, says the driver was headed from Baltimore to New Jersey when he was hit. The driver suffered minor injuries, according to Fox Baltimore. "Our maintenance team is evaluating damage to the aircraft and we will investigate how this occurred," a United spokesperson said.
