Reminds me of a guy who I worked with in the 90s who used to say that wandering down the small sois in Bangkok was one of the best ways to experience the city. His other passion was to wait until the morning rush hour was over and hop on any random non-airconditioned bus with the windows open. And have no particular destination in mind.

oh and if you honk at them, the death stares you get. As if you are in the wrong when it is clearly them in the wrong for going against traffic and putting everyone at risk. The audacity of these people.

Motorbikes going the wrong way against traffic is out of control. Yes, it’s systemic and partly bad road design, but it’s still dangerous and stressful for drivers. Something has to change.

I'm not a driver but it's just as bad when you're a pedestrian crossing main roads, and you have to look several times in both directions - even when it's a one-way road. I have no idea why, but out here in Samut Prakan, there has been a dramatic decline in the number of motorcyclists riding against the traffic flow. Long may it continue.

I switched from EVA Air to Emirates several years ago, purely because I got tired of taking the coach up from Heathrow to Birmingham, hanging around at Heathrow Bus Station for several hours (not an easy place to kill time at night) and getting into Birmingham at 2.00 am. But that EVA Air direct flight - Bangkok to Heathrow (especially in Premium Economy) is a great flight ticket. I may well be looking at that option again for my end of July trip if the situation hasn't improved in The Middle East.

My wife has just been to have her teeth cleaned at the dentist for free. And her follow up treatment next week will be free as well. Apparently this is a new initiative from the Thai government. Thais are allowed to go X times a year for free - so tell your Thai partner if they don't know. Must be focused on keeping it the land of smiles. 😆

@NwKSEI Been there, done that... twice in fact. Standing outside the hotel wide awake at 3.00 am due to jet lag, and catching the morning bus completely sleep-deprived, made me realise it was better to just push on after the plane landed.

@Ajarncom You can always spend the night near Heathrow. There are some reasonable hotels for around 120 euro

I have to go for number 1 but I would love 3 or 4. I get to number 2 and I just feel itchy and unkempt. Well-trimmed, neat beards are great though for older men because they can give a roundness to the face and cover up the number one enemy - sagging jowls.

They've added a little packet of fried shallots to the 7-11 Indian curry - to take your eating pleasure to a whole new level.

I tried a couple of pork loins in the air fryer a few days ago. Marinated in a barbecue sauce, just 4-5 minutes each side - and they turned out Michelin star. Just like in Matt's photo!

@Ajarncom For a retirement visa you have to go with your agent( if you use one) so that immigration can take your photo of you with their camera.

Another topic that divides Thai Twitter down the middle - visa agents. For me, they can provide a good service but they're a last resort - to be considered if I am physically unable to go to immigration (and even then I'd probably send a family member) I just hate letting my passport out of my sight. I've always been this way. MT @FPetet My friend has used an agent several times to extend his retirement visa without problems. In December he used the same agent again, but still hasn't received his passport back. He is close to 90 days overstay if they haven't already done the extension. He calls every day, but is met with excuses. "Staff gone home". " hasn't arrived yet.", but no promise on when it will arrive. He is now at his wits end because he is powerless to do anything.
