I dont think the Australian political class realizes the damage they are doing to undermine our society with their commentary. Claiming One Nation voters are motivated by racism or that racist "dogwhistling" is being done by the Coaliton for votes helps no one. One Nation holds the vote of 28% of the electorate, 26% of migrants and getting on for 1 in 5 individuals who do not speak English at home. Accusing great swathes of the population of being intricably linked to racism is a deeply concerning as it is counter-productive. Equally so for making the claim that the Coalition is "dogwhistling", that somehow the block of voters who are deeply racist is so large that it can make this major difference politically. Some of the followers of these people have a go at people like myself for using facts to point out what is mostly already blatantly obvious. Perhaps look at some of your leaders for the ones who are truly undermining social cohesion.

Just finishing a renovation. Contractor said that the cost of supplies has gone up 30-50% in the past month. Price rises are creeping through the system.

Tajikistan also really interesting. The kindness of the people across the Stans is second to none. Safe travels.

Fair question. What can I say? Travel has just become too much like hard work - the airports, the flights, the logistics, the disappointment of must-see lists. I still quite enjoy the destination but the rest of it is crap. You're left questioning travel's value for money these days. And as you age, I guess you can't get away from the fact that comfort and simplicity become more appealing. My wife and I still have plenty of travel plans, but I don't have the same spring in my step that I had a decade ago. So you're left wondering if you're doing it out of some misguided obligation.

Just saw this headline trending. UK State Pension Age Rises to 67 Starting This Week Retire at 67 and go see the world. It's one of the biggest myths and lies people were ever sold. How many people are just not fit enough? And for those fit enough, how many good years do they have left? I'm almost 62 and can feel my passion for travel slipping away like never before. My Ma and Pa never got on an airplane again when they hit 68 and 69. Poor health got in the way, along with a general lack of motivation and energy. I'd say I saw it in most people I've known that hit their mid-60s or beyond. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule - but I'm convinced they're a relatively small minority.

@bangkokaussie @Ajarncom It’s a whole cultural movement in Australia. I live in Oz for 6 months of the year near the Prom coast and the sheer amount of ’Grey Nomads’ getting about is really something.

@Ajarncom International travel is just increasingly grinding though which adds too it. Still, gentle travel maybe? Caravan trips around Europe and the like - is that an option you think?
