This same Naija-UK couple wahala. A man sent me a very long message in my DM. That’s like the story of his life but I have to share and keep it short. He came to the UK first on a work visa. After settling in, he brought his wife over as dependant. They had done long distance for a while, so this move was meant to finally bring them together and start a proper life. Things were okay at the beginning as he worked long hours to keep things stable while she adjusted and found her own job. After some time, she got a better role while she was still a dependant. That’s when things started to change. According to the man, she began coming home late, less present, more distant. The connection between them started fading, but he kept telling himself it was just work stress. This is UK. One day, he got to work and the overtime shift he had picked was canceled and he didn’t get the message on time. He was informed about the canceled shift when he got to work. He just felt ha should just retune home and use that to rest. Getting home, which was unusual, he met his wife on a video call, speaking softly like she didn’t want to be heard. He stood there for a moment, listening, confused. Then he heard enough to know something wasn’t right. He said the wife was telling the person at the otherside, a man that “Baby, I can’t keep hiding this. The visa is in his name but my heart is not.” He said he broke down immediately and the wife realised he was in. When she saw him, everything shifted. Later, he was able to settle and asked questions. He had to cancel his shifts and take a week leave to get himself. He confronted her and she didn’t deny anything. The guy the wife was having affairs with was in Nigeria. They have been on while the husband was in the UK alone. She was already helping the affair partner to get visa through study. She told her husband in the confrontation that she no longer felt valued in the marriage. Said she felt controlled and unappreciated. Said the other man made her feel loved and seen while he was away. Everything he had been working for suddenly felt different as he was going to run mad, according to him. They don’t have child yet but the plan was when they are both balanced. Now he had a choice. Stay and try to fix it, or walk away and accept that things had already changed. In the end, he chose himself. He stopped fighting for the relationship, pulled back his support, and asked the wife to look for her sponsorship then while he started sorting his life on his own. No shouting, no drama. He just stepped away and let her face the consequences of her choices. According to him, she later got her work visa where she was working. He divorced her and remarried the same year. He heard that she was able to bring the other man to the UK as her friend had told him but the affair partner dumped her after he finished his studies and followed a British on a spouse visa. 🤷‍♂️
