I wrote about what drives the revenue cities receive from fining people for things like traffic violations. Probably not surprising, but worth saying: it seems to be about race. Cities with more black residents fine more per capita and rely on that revenue to a larger degree.

@Amanda_Kass Becca Hendrick’s book probably has one. I effectively wrote one for my second empirical chapter of my dissertation.

We think this is revenue-motivated judging. And, much like revenue-motivated policing, we should probably stop it from happening.
