@KaraSeyfeddin There is something called 'the double logic of a narrative': the story that is narrated both precedes and comes after the narrative; i.e. the story comes into life only when it is narrated for the first time -- and so no need to expect a dating method to date a story before that.

@Egsaba_IA @Ayang_Utriza An update: Although Ibn Khallikān gives it as -wayh, the name apparently entered into Arabic as Sībawayhi with a final -i during Harūn's time. Check jstor.org/stable/2519008… and Nöldeke 1888 Persische Studien. Persiache Koseformen, p.4ff = [p. 388ff.] (Credit: K. van Bladel)

3/Another report: the Syrian al-Awzāʿī (d. 774) was asked about grave robbery. His answer was firm: this is an evil deed! He cited a Prophetic ḥadīth prohibiting entry into homes without permission, adding: graves are even more sacred than houses. archive.org/details/201911…

2/ Four men fell into dispute over how to divide the treasure they excavated. The case was brought before al-Zuhrī (d. 742), a leading jurist of the Umayyad period, and his decision was about to determine who owned what once the buried treasure resurfaced. (Wakīʿ, Akhbār, 3/211)

1/ Here are some interesting reports on treasure hunting and grave robbery from the Umayyad period. Muslim jurists of the time permitted certain cases while prohibiting others. One case from old town Lattakia tells of men who unearthed buried gold… and then turned on each other

1/ Here is a broken ḥadīth inscription I managed to decipher on on the mihrab of one of the most beautiful mosques in Ankara/Turkey. It is 13th-c. Seljuk Mosque with a wooden architecture & went through a successful restoration recently.

Indeed, the most beautiful voice is the voice (recitation) of the Qur'an. The ḥadīth was recorded as such by İbrahim Hakkı Konyalı in his 1978 Ankara book. The damage seems to be relatively new.

@abdurrahimozer_ Güzel bildiniz hocam 👏 "inne ehsane's-savt savtü'l-kurʾān" إِنَّ أَحْسَنَ الصَّوْتِ صَوْتُ الْقُرْآنِ "Seslerin en güzeli Kur'an'ın sesidir/tilavetidir" İbrahim Hakkı Konyalı, Ankara Camileri (1978) kitabında ilk hadisi yanlış okumuş ama bunu kaydetmiş. Tahribat nispeten yeni

3/ The lower right column is severely damaged. The restorers were unable to read or reconstruct it; only a few opening letters remain legible. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "The best of ... ANY GUESSES? I'll post the answer tomorrow.

2/ The lower part of the mihrab bears two beautifully inscribed ḥadīths. The one on the right fortunately remains intact, The Prophet (pbuh) said: "The people are in their mosques, and God is in their needs." ++

@shahanSean Interesting. When Willibald and other travelers with him arrived in Syria, they were initially arrested for some time—but I think because they were suspected of being spies rather than pilgrims.

Curious how a newly discovered late Arabic translation of an “early” Syriac chronicle is so readily treated as early and authentic. Tmk, Vahan & Sacellarius appear as Byzantine commanders only in early Arabic conquest narratives, so very likely derived from the Arabic tradition
