The actual derangement is the people who don’t realize Obama is broadly popular, well-liked, and remembered fondly and was extremely popular on the day he left office as well. Not a perfect president or a flawless administration but better than all the other ones.

Speaking of Michael Jackson. I went to Bucharest to see the massive Ceaușescu building — the palace the dictator built over decades, inspired by North Korea and Versailles (yes, really), clearing out an entire neighborhood, and then redirecting something like 5% of the nation's GDP to its construction. His dream was to give weekly addresses from the front balcony with his wife to the adoring masses — but both he and his wife were deposed and executed before it was completed, and the new liberated country, not sure what to do with the white elephant, decided to finish it, and when completed a few years later, the first person to use that balcony and wave to adoring masses was a touring Michael Jackson. Which I think is the perfect ending to a crazy period.
