@MartinPeelUK @MartinSLewis Only if your other combined lifetime savings do not exceed your tax threshold for interest. This is £500 limit if salary in higher tax bracket. The 8k would not be in a ‘tax wrapper’ and therefore the interest it generates forms part of your allowance.

@MartinSLewis If savers put 12k into a cash ISA and 8k into a normal savings account (both at approx 4%) wouldn’t the interest from the 8k still be below the annual savings allowance? Won’t it all be tax-free anyway?! 🤷‍♂️

People asking "if the cash ISA limit is cut from £20,000 to £12,000 when'll it start?". Clearly I don't know, as we don't know if it's happening. Yet my BEST GUESS would be from the start of the new tax year 6 April 2026 (as to do it mid-tax year'd be administratively bizarre)
