@Alauda123 @billsbirding Oh wow! It's been really cool to hear of all the different areas people are reporting this behaviour from. I couldn't find anywhere near this number of records online. A national survey would be amazing!

Absolutely mega!!! A colony of cliff-nesting House Martins in Glen Doll over 750m elevation on craggy outcrops! So cool to see, with over 60 nests in total. Awesome find @billsbirding - a distraction from our micro moth explorations. Anyone else know of cliff colonies like this?

@wilder_action Great photo! I've spent ages trying to photograph these in flight and never got close, it's a parasitic wasp with the great scientific name Gasteruption jaculator.

@SteelySeabirder Worrying news. Over here in west Galloway, the little population that I monitor has increased slightly from last year and all 10 nests have been successful with 2 or 3 chicks fledged. Shags don't breed every year so hopefully your birds are all still out there somewhere.

Wipeout. The Isle of May European Shags (in video) have been decimated as the population showed a 81% decline from just last year. The blog has the full story of this catastrophic drop: isleofmaynnr.wordpress.com

@Oldirtybasbird Oysercatchers are the only waders that feed their chicks. In all other shorebird species, the chicks have to find their own food from the day they hatch.

There are no rain delays during seabird flight training. In preparation of fledging, thousands of young Laysan albatross, or mōlī, simulated flying during a rain shower at Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge last week.

A Northern Gannet diving - a composite shot, with a view of Noup Head Lighthouse on the distant cliffs. Westray, Orkney. They are magnificent to witness.

100 years ago tomorrow, Dayton and Lillian Stoner (pictured here in 1918) set off on a car trip across rural Iowa. It was an ordinary journey, but it founded a whole new branch of science - one that might save the world today. To find out more, read my book Traffication

Liz Truss is getting £115,000 a year tax free allowance for the rest of her life, for being the worst, shortest serving PM ever. It should be revoked she is a disgrace and does not deserve a penny, RT if you agree.

@Available4Panto Yes, Sunak seems to be defending his decision to leave the D-Day event by saying that he was going to leave the D-Day event anyway, election or no election. Which is a strange sort of defence.
