Scrapping Stamp Duty would help get the housing market moving again.
Stamp Duty punishes people simply for moving house. Too often it stops older homeowners from downsizing, meaning larger family homes stay locked up while younger families struggle to move up the ladder.
Removing it would mean more mobility, more homes available for families, and more money for people to spend improving their homes. A healthier market all-round.
I fully support @Conservatives plans to scrap Stamp Duty. 👏

When I visited LOROS Hospice last year, I saw first‑hand the incredible work they do for patients and families across our area, as well as the very real concerns they had about long‑term funding.
I am therefore really pleased to hear that the ICB has been working closely with LOROS, and that this has now resulted in an uplift to £1.2 million of funding for 2026/27, enabling the number of ICB‑funded beds to increase from 6 to 12. This means more beds can be opened and more people can receive the specialist care they need - a significant and very welcome step forward.
There is still more work to do to secure stable, multi‑year commissioning so that LOROS can plan confidently for the long term. I will continue to advocate for LOROS to have sustainable, reliable support from all partners, including the ICB, so that hospice and end‑of‑life care remains protected for the future.

It was a great honour to receive the title of Officer of the Order of the Star of Italy, conferred by the President of the Italian Republic 🇮🇹.
I am very grateful to Ambassador @InigoLND and the team at the Italian Embassy in London for hosting such a special ceremony at the Ambassador’s Residence, and to President of the Chamber of Deputies @Fontana3Lorenzo for presenting the insignia.
Thank you as well to the friends, parliamentary colleagues and, most especially, my family who came to share the occasion with me. It meant a great deal to celebrate the moment together.

*Heating Oil Price Spike*
Many residents have contacted me about the shocking rise in heating oil prices. People have seen prices jump from 58p per litre to 145p in just 48 hours, leaving many households facing bills they simply cannot afford.
I know how worrying this is for families who have no alternative but to rely on heating oil to heat their homes.
I support this letter from Claire Coutinho calling for urgent action on price gouging and greater transparency in the heating oil market, and I will be seeking to raise this issue in Parliament as a matter of urgency.

📢 SEND Nursery Provision – Leicestershire County Council Decision
*GOOD NEWS*: Leicestershire County Council has decided not to proceed with plans cutting specialist nursery provision for children with SEND.
Thank you to every parent, carer, and resident who contacted me and spoke out. Your powerful and deeply personal stories made clear just how vital these specialist settings are for children’s development, wellbeing, and family stability.
I know how unsettling this period has been. After listening to constituents and raising these concerns, I am relieved that the Council has listened and acted.
However, families should never have been put through this uncertainty. Decisions affecting vulnerable children must be handled with care, transparency, and meaningful engagement from the start.

📢 Local Government Reorganisation - *Have Your Say*
The Labour Government is proposing major changes to local councils that could abolish district and county councils and replace them with much larger “unitary” authorities.
Alongside @CllrBenTaylor Conservative Leader of @BlabyDC, I am strongly opposed to plans that would force villages into an expanded city boundary, weaken local identity, and damage truly local decision-making.
If change is imposed, we strongly believe the best option is “North, City, South” (three unitary councils) built around existing communities, keeping decisions local while meeting Government criteria.

Animal welfare is an issue that matters deeply to many people across our communities, and the UK has long prided itself on maintaining high standards.
The Government’s Animal Welfare Strategy for England includes a number of commitments, from tackling irresponsible breeding to improving oversight of animal sanctuaries and reviewing the use of cages in farming. It is now essential that ministers set out a clear timetable for delivering these measures so that charities, farmers and enforcement bodies have the certainty they need.
We must ensure that any reforms both strengthen protections for animals and are implemented in a practical, proportionate way that supports responsible owners and British farmers.

I’m very concerned by Leicestershire County Council’s response on plans to end specialist SEND nursery places.
Over 120 children with complex needs, many from South Leicestershire, could lose access to expert early support that parents tell me their children rely on.
The Council says this will be replaced by support in mainstream settings. But adding just 6 practitioners across the county raises serious questions about whether children with complex needs will get the help they deserve.
