Claudia on transit: "If we had a transit system that was reliable and affordable, and that got you where you needed to go when you needed to be there, we would massively impact the congestion."

@TimHoustonNS's twitter ace is loving him some shade tossing! Let's be clear about 2 things: 1. A policy update & 2 police officers cannot & will not make schools safer 2. You're putting words in my mouth I'll get you sorted on both counts. /1
Stephen Moore@stephenmoore902

The @NSPC plan involves making schools safer. It's also important to remember that two @NSTeachersUnion presidents praised Houston's governments. Houston's commitment to education is well-documented. Six education professionals are running for him, and he is the only third premier since the Second World War to attend an Annual Council of the Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union. Let's look at what @withwozney and @ryanlutes said about @TimHouston: “The premier shared his commitment to improving classroom conditions, to improving work-life balance for teachers and his desire to invest in public schools, and I think that spurred his team along into eventually getting an agreement with teachers.” Ryan Lutes, Queens County Community Radio, April 18, 2024 “Wozney says the NSTU’s relationship with the Houston government is faring much better.” – January 6, 2022, CKBW Radio “This is a government that at least has begun to take teacher feedback and input very seriously and I think that bodes well.” Paul Wozney, January 6, 2022, CKBW Radio “President Paul Wozney says the current government’s willingness to communicate and collaborate with teachers and their union is a welcome change.” May 1, 2022, NSTU website “He [Ryan Lutes] credited… the intervention of Houston, who spoke with the union bargaining team earlier this week, with pushing the talks ahead.” April 18, 2024, CBC "His [Tim Houston’s] direct involvement was absolutely helpful to get his side, his bargaining team moving in a more constructive way," [Ryan] Lutes said. April 18, 2024, CBC Ryan Lutes, president of the teachers union, said in an interview Thursday that the premier’s presence at the bargaining table seemed to move things along. “The premier was helpful,” Lutes said. Across our province, people tell me their biggest concern is affording secure housing for their families. Too many are being stretched thin, paying someone else’s mortgage with no hope of ever owning a home of their own. For years, Liberals and PCs have ignored the problem.

Violence in public schools is at crisis-level. The Government of Nova Scotia has been ignoring the concerns of workers, and school communities, for too long. Join me in demanding they finally take action to end violence in schools. nmshr.io/s/twitter/ZBE0… #NSpoli

Today we remember Viola Desmond, the Nova Scotia businesswoman and civil rights activist who stood up against racial segregation at the Roseland Theatre in 1946. Her brave actions sparked a movement and continue to inspire us to this day.

Every day, I hear from Nova Scotians who work hard but can't make ends meet. This just isn't right. The NDP has a real plan to make life affordable – we'll lower the cost of your groceries, cell phone bills & internet, and bring down power bills. You deserve a government that works for you, not just the wealthy.
Nova Scotia NDP@NSNDP

Nova Scotians are feeling the squeeze. It's time for real leadership that puts money back in your pocket. Our plan will remove HST from all groceries, cell phone bills, and internet, and lower power bills. Read more: nsndp.ca/new-democrat-p…

Good leaders earn trust. But after three years of soaring costs, a raging housing crisis, and a health care system under strain, it’s clear that Tim Houston has lost our trust. It’s time for leadership you can believe in.

Everyone deserves a safe, affordable home – but housing costs have soared for too long. It’s time for change. Today, we announced our plan to save thousands of households an average of $900/year on your rent or mortgage. An NDP government will put money back in your pocket.

Rents are soaring, making it harder to afford a home in the communities we love. But Nova Scotia’s NDP is ready to fix this. We’ll ban fixed-term leases and bring in real rent control to keep housing affordable for everyone. Sign to support our plan: act.nsndp.ca/signup/rent-co…

A plan to protect our coastal communities, the Coastal Protection Act, received all-party support years ago. But instead of taking action, Tim Houston and his ministers broke their promise to Nova Scotians. They abandoned this crucial plan. Now, our beautiful coastlines are at risk. We can’t let a small circle of wealthy developers control the fate of our shores. A New Democrat government will pass the Act, establish coastal protection zones & safeguard our communities from climate change.

Today is Halloween, but for many families, the real scary story is our health care system under the Houston Conservatives.  It’s time for change on November 26 – because Houston’s health care horror show has gone on for long enough.

Our province is a beautiful place to live – but skyrocketing rent is pushing Nova Scotians out of their communities. An NDP government will bring in real rent control, ban fixed-term leases that drive up rent, and slash the annual increase cap from 5% to 2.5%. Together, we can make housing affordable and give renters the stability they deserve.

The Nova Scotia PC's new campaign slogan just dropped… Nova Scotians are stretched to their limit. Groceries are breaking the bank. Family doctor waiting lists are growing by the day and affordable housing is impossible to find. Tim Houston and his party have had four years to make it happen – it’s time for change.
