@AndrewHolnessJM@selsp97 I doont fault you for.not know what's going on in Cuba as there has been a media blackout in jamaica about the aggreguous and criminal sanctions the US government put on the Cuban.ppl.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, provided updates on two key areas under the Ministry.
First, the Ministry is holding meetings with Jamaica’s Heads of Missions, including Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consuls General, from around the world. These sessions, which include the Prime Minister, focus on aligning Jamaica’s diplomatic missions with national policies, sharing best practices, and addressing both global and local issues. The Minister assured that these discussions are productive and that Jamaica’s interests are being well represented internationally.
Second, Minister Johnson Smith addressed the situation affecting over 300 Jamaican students in Cuba, including 44 on government scholarships and 256 privately funded, amid severe fuel shortages and frequent power outages. These disruptions are impacting daily life, including access to food, transportation, medical services, and education. Some schools have temporarily closed or shifted to online learning, and 13 privately funded students have already returned to Jamaica.
The Ministry has established a WhatsApp group to maintain direct communication with students and is receiving daily updates from the Jamaican Embassy in Havana. Students have been advised to consult with their families and institutions, prepare for possible emergency travel, and assess their personal circumstances. Diplomatic notes have been sent to Cuban authorities regarding access to academic records in case students need to transfer.
Flanked by his two children, single father Mr. Ronald Williams delivered a heartfelt statement on how the New Social Housing Programme will change their lives.
Moments like these, when you can see, feel and hear the impact of how government programmes are changing lives, are among the most fulfilling for me.
“Nothing Can Stop My Blessing” – Andrea Hill, NSHP recipient, Manchester North Eastern
Yesterday, we handed over a safe, sturdy home to Ms. Andrea Hill and her family in Manchester North Eastern, replacing the deteriorating wooden structure they once lived in.
A hardworking farmer and mother of two, Ms. Hill has faced many struggles. But through the New Social Housing Programme (NSHP), she now has security, comfort, and a fresh start.
Thanks to MP Audley Shaw for his recommendation and the NSHP team for making this possible.
Ms. Hill, nothing can stop your blessing!
May your new home be a foundation for better days ahead.
@AndrewHolnessJM Whoever is writing the PR statements for this campaign shouldn not mention the MP as the top of statement He is
not the subject of the campaign. Top of line should mention recipient first .
Yesterday in Southern St. James represented by MP Homer Davis, we handed over a new home to Mr. Cedric Grizzle, who lost everything in a house fire in 2013 and has endured years of hardship.
For over a decade, he lived without basic amenities, relying on the kindness of others.
“This house means the world to me. I finally have a place to call my own again,” he shared with gratitude.
Through the New Social Housing Programme, we’re restoring HOPE to families like Mr. Grizzle’s. #CaringForYou
In a heartwarming moment in Southern St. James, represented by MP Homer Davis, Ms. Inez Francis stood proudly in front of her newly built home, her eyes glistening with gratitude.
she said, “I have prayed for this day for so long, and now I can finally feel at peace. This house is
a blessing.”
For years, Ms. Francis, her husband who is visually impaired, and their adopted eight-year-old child endured harsh living conditions. Despite these difficulties, Ms. Francis never gave up hope, and today, thanks to the Social Housing Programme, her family has been given a fresh start.
This transformation, captured so vividly, underscores what’s possible when care and commitment come together. We are #CaringForYou
