Constructive and substantive discussion at today’s meeting of the Working Party on Enlargement and Countries Negotiating Accession to the EU of the Council of the European Union, where Serbia’s Ambassador to the EU, Danijel Apostolović, briefed EU Member States on the state of play of Serbia’s EU accession negotiations, including the implementation of Venice Commission and ODIHR recommendations, developments in the areas of rule of law, as well as economic indicators and other key issues related to Serbia’s EU path and accession process. The briefing was followed by a lively discussion and numerous questions from Member States, reflecting continued attention to Serbia’s reform agenda and progress in the accession process. 🇷🇸🇪🇺

Started my visit to Serbia focusing on the right to freedom of expression, media freedom, peaceful assembly & the protection of civic space. Constructive engagement with the Protector of Citizens, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality & a broad range of actors from civil society & media.

Our colleagues from the Western Balkans economy & agriculture network, together with Ineke van de Weijgaert from @minlvvn, came together at the #OrangePavilion at the Novi Sad International Agricultural Fair to exchange ideas on agriculture, innovation, and regional cooperation.

"The first joint military exercise between the Republic of Serbia and NATO, organized by the Army Command and JFC Naples, is being held this week and next week at the “South” Base and “Borovac” Training Ground near Bujanovac 🇷🇸 About 600 members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the armed forces of Italy, Romania and Türkiye are participating in the exercise entitled “NATO–Serbia," in the presence of military planners and observers from 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇮🇹🇲🇪🇷🇴🇹🇷🇬🇧🇺🇸. This is a tactical-level exercise which lasts until May 23, providing an opportunity for members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the armed forces of NATO member states to exchange experience and work practices. Good to touch base with Western Balkan colleagues in Brussels. On behalf of the Benelux countries, I underlined the importance of our cooperation and regular dialogue. I also stressed the need for reforms, especially on anti-corruption and rule of law. 1/2

Met today in Brussels on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Ministers meeting with my Dutch counterpart @ministerBZ. We went over the main issues on our bilateral agenda and the possibilities for enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The #Netherlands is one of Serbia’s most significant economic partners and among the largest foreign investors in our country, which is why we see considerable room for further advancing our relations. Speaking about #Serbia’s EU path, I reaffirmed that EU #membership remains among our foremost foreign policy goals and highlighted the role the Netherlands plays in the EU enlargement process. I also stressed the importance of gradually integrating the #WesternBalkans into the #Schengen area and the EU Single Market, as this would bring tangible benefits to both the region and the EU as a whole.

On May 4th, the Netherlands commemorates all victims of war. We remember all – civilians and soldiers – who have been killed in the Kingdom of the Netherlands or anywhere in the world in war situations or during peacekeeping operations since the outbreak of the Second World War.
