Captain David Morgan pitched and Coors really killed his stuff. Should have only been the 1 Earned Run and made it through 2 innings if Castellanos didn’t whiff on a tailor made DP ball.

Thought this would be Canning’s last rehab start, but I’m not sure now. Didn’t throw his signature changeup at all. Really excited for him to pitch in SD where his stuff will fair much better.

The Giolito signing is awesome but I can’t help but think it also means Pivetta & Musgrove won’t be back until the end of year, if at all.

@padrespod At this point we have 6 starters: King, Vasquez, Buehrle, Marquez, Giolito and soon Canning. We now hope that ONE of Musgrove and Pivetta is back in August.. both would be great....and we RIDE

Can’t be mad at the signing considering the backend of the rotation and how it helps our depth.
However, was this exclusively for depth or does this signal something about Nick Pivetta’s injury?

The Padres just announced they’ve signed Lucas Giolito. It’s a one-year deal with a mutual option for 2027. Helps fill out a rotation with depth concerns.

The Padres just signed Giolito to a 1+1 deal.
His underlying metrics suck, but what he will do is eat innings while Pivetta and Musgrove are (hopefully) rehabbing from their elbow injuries.
Canning will be back soon, so let’s hope these guys can hold it down in the meantime.

@SergioMQuintero @Padres In a perfect world, we get Canning in a week or two, Musgrove and Pivetta in August (which would be the equivalent of a trade deadline acquisition) and in the meantime we ride with King, Vasquez, Buehrle, Marquez, Canning and Giolitto

Padres need Giolito to be a solid 4 starter, that seems like a reasonable ask.
