@Alex16790alAlex @tsarinatalia @Asulzilla That there is the issue. This person explains it better
Ray's failed mpreg attempt@paristanhell

@500minniemays @likhamartia @prettycritical He didn't make a new dish. He didn't invent a new thing. THAT'S THE PROBLEM. He didn't invent, he developed a recipe for a dish that ALREADY EXISTS. The least he could do was NAME THE DISH. He can call it vegan ube ice cream all he wants BEFORE or AFTER he's specified which dish

Filipino spaghettis are made with banana ketchup and not tomato. This recipe was made by Maria Orosa during WW2 in response to the food shortage, and this invention of hers have saved the lives of many Filipinos. Jollibee spaghetti uses the same recipe. Not the same situation.
Alex@Alex16790alAlex

@conxilius Bitch do you think Jollibees ever consulted anyone in the nation of Italy before making their spaghetti? This makes no sense, he’s just a person MAKING ICE CREAM IN MASSACHUSETTS.

@Canned_Tuna07 @dantiromantic Girl shut the fuck up. He’s posting to his private account about a cool project he did. You don’t need to be told the fucking Yemeni and Ethiopian roots of Coffee everytime you order a latte do you? No one owes you shit.

@dantiromantic Girl he leaves out he work with filo chefs initially. Thats ateral exploitation. He wantsd sole credit for something he didn't do alone? Not only that but if he actually talked with them, was it too much to remember to type Filipino instead of AAPI or established? Tanga lang?

My local cookie shop has ube flavoured cookies and has had them for a long time please be serious 😭 I hate to defend a white man especially as someone from a country that was colonized by them, but this isn't the oppressive episode y'all are making it out to be
SleepyAsul 🇵🇭@Asulzilla

I really don't appreciate how you are all trying to police what we feel about this. Chances are you all have probably only learned about ube so recently, unlike us pinoys who have known it for all our lives.

@hibi_404 @Asulzilla That’s not what recipe development means. “I developed a baked cheesecake recipe so it works for my oven” does not equal “I invented baked cheesecake, no recipe before this has ever existed”. It’s inherently implied in receipt development you used prior sources.

@jimejimemoree @tsarinatalia @Asulzilla Yeah popularised does not equal when it was invented. Yeah it’s called that because it’s a term of endearment. It’s also not inherently vegan and they famously used whatever milks they had access to from coconut milk to water buffalo milk to even powdered milk.

@multicaratspree Yeah. We know. The point is recipe development happens all the time and different cultures will make different things based of other cultures dishes. See chicken tikka masala or Blondie brownies. It’s part of the human condition.

the funny thing here is tomatoes aren’t even native to Italy and pasta traces its roots to China/Asia. and Philippine spaghetti wasn’t deliberately made, it was a product of wartime and scarcity birthing to Banana Ketchup

@ic28uc28 @tsarinatalia @Asulzilla Yeah. You’re arguing my point for me. The Ube guy didn’t invent or claim credit for being the first person to do something lmao. This is how recipe development works.

@KKeithyfishplli That’s not what the word “developed” means in the culinary world at all. Yall need to learn to read. Developed has never been synonymous with invention.

I don't know at what point in the establishment of Jollibee did they claim to DEVELOP (create/invented) a spaghetti with tomato ketchup lol Funfact: they never did. It's a well known type of mashup food in the Philippines and no one ever claimed they developed the spaghetti, everyone here knows that it's just another version of spaghetti hence we often call it Filipino style. The only thing that's really keeping this up is that the originator of the discourse was already told that there is already an existing Ube Icecream but he insisted that he developed it 🤷 How is that so hard to understand?

@shineonmo Maybe if you weren’t such a moron on Twitter you’d realise that it was a comparison because the person I was replying to saying he should be crediting the Phillipines for his recipe. Also yeah whoopdee the war happened and yall used a cheap Italian staple because it was cheap.

@tsarinatalia @Asulzilla Yeah cool, it’s called a spelling mistake. Also sorbettes was a street food popularised in the 70s made from any milk product they could get their hands on including dairy. It’s not inherently vegan. Ffs it’s called “dirty ice cream”. Now go touch grass.

@Alex16790alAlex @Asulzilla respectfully you're not understanding what i'm saying and i don't think further discussion would help. the guy just adapted the filipino sorbetes making process for his shop requirements, and you don't even know that sorbetes ≠ sorbetto. good day

@maiy_enn No you fundamentally don’t understand what the word developed means. Developed doesn’t mean “updating” either. If I develop a recipe for cake to work in my oven, I’m not the first person to make a cake with that specific oven. Please just go read something.

@Alex16790alAlex yeah but what he said he developed already exists. Developed is updating an old recipe—him saying in his addtl twt that he used coconut etc. was already being utilized in the ph. It’s not rlly smnt to argue but rather to inform but then people dismissed the sentiments

@maiy_enn That’s not what the word developed means. It means he made something. That’s what the word developed means in recipes. Like if I have a cheesecake and I want to make sure it works for my oven I’ll change things around until I have a new recipe. I have developed a recipe.

americans, both white americans and poc who benefit from their american identity, are NEVER true allies of the global south. they are active collaborators of the state and shape movements into whatever is palatable to the imperial core. anything beyond that is foreign to them.

...interesting how this 💜 discourse exposed how many 🇺🇸 people still carry so much racism and ignorance toward nationalities they perceive as “non-English speaking.” somehow, this is the one thing they all unite over. culture vultures regardless of race lol !
