Omah Lay once again speaking on the state of Nigerian music 🗣️ (Interview with Views France) — "There's a thing that I fear for Afrobeats. Nigerian Music is drifting towards a place where Nigg*s are not putting so much effort in the art anymore, and that is hurting my culture. Nigg*s are just playing with music these days & not trying to improve the sound & the whole creativity around it"

@hypetribeng He said it exactly how it is. There are so many trash zero craft records our so-called Afro beat artist having been putting out and omah lay is just one of the few artists we having that’s really doing the craft and not just for vibes . The truth is bitter 💜

“Nigerian Music is drifting towards a place where Nigg*s are not putting so much efforts in the art anymore, Nigg*s are just playing with music these days & really not trying to improve the sound & the whole creativity around it. It is really dipping the audience & the new generation, that level of music is what they are growing to & they are even doing worse. I just wish we could strive to raise the bar a little more” — Omah Lay in new interview w/ ViewsFrance

"My relationship with my fans in general is toxic. My fans want something but I never give them what they want, I give them what they need, and a lot of times they don't get it at first. They know me for a vibe, which is my last album, but as time goes on, I have to grow" — Omah Lay on his relationship with his fans 🗣️ (Via Interview with Views France)

Anymore And The New Generation Is Even Doing Worse — Omah Lay Nigerian singer Omah Lay has expressed concern over the direction of Afrobeats, warning that the genre may be drifting away from artistic depth as some musicians focus more on commercial success than creativity. Speaking during an interview, he said, “The thing that I fear for Afrobeats, Nigerian music, is drifting towards a place where n+ggas are not putting in so much effort in the art anymore, and that is also hurting my culture.” He further criticised what he described as a growing lack of dedication to musical craftsmanship, stating, “People are just really playing with music these days and not digging into the sound, trying to improve the craft and the whole creativity around it. It’s just like quick money.” According to the singer, this shift is also influencing listeners and emerging artists. “Now the audience are used to a level of music, and that is what the new generation is growing into. So they are even doing worse,” he added. While acknowledging the global success of Afrobeats, Omah Lay clarified that international exposure is not entirely responsible for the change. “I also don’t want to pin that on the globalization of Afrobeats. That could be one of the reasons. But in general, it’s a good thing Africa to the world, Afrobeats to the world is happening. People are getting to know us from our music,” he said. He concluded by expressing hope that the industry can strike a balance between global expansion and maintaining artistic quality.

Omah Lay, na you drop this album? Rema go just dey one place dey laugh. Overconfidence is what’s affecting you. Can’t you see what Wizkid and Asake did? You have the biggest song in the country with Davido, yet you didn’t capitalize on it. The timing of this album is off. Nigerians are currently frvstrated with the government, and you could have dedicated at least one song to address what’s happening in the country, but you chose not to. It just shows you’re focused only on yourself.” — GehGeh
