@gregnormanfox Nice job dodging the fact that he was a far-right conspiracist who's racist rants alienated even his politically-aligned friends -- calling him "beyond conservatism". The trend of violence amongst young white nationalist boys makes this considerably less "mysterious", Greg...

@alexpotash If its any consolation, I was an R luddite—self described base R hipster (who refused tidy convention until 2020). sf was a pill, but on the other side (took 2 or so months) I'm reformed and rejoicing. And what Rob said too.

After another day of struggling to use the sf package for what should have been a simple task, I am spitefully retweeting this.
Alex Potash@alexpotash

I used to enjoy doing #spatialstatistics in R with package sp, but sf is such a nightmare to work with. It's like the developers sat down and said "how can we make everything as unintuitive and roundabout as possible?"

My recent paper (how climate change and invasive species affect treefrogs native to the SE USA) made the cover of Journal of Animal Ecology (!) and later featured in Nature Climate Change (!): tinyurl.com/2tfuj25h @BrettScheffers 📷Steve Johnson

This red-eyed tree frog looks ready for the weekend! Photo by SNRE PhD student @AlexBaecher, who's building models to predict where and when high-risk invasive reptiles and amphibians are expected to spread under climate change.

@EmilyKhazan @alexpotash Definitely possible, especially places like MDPI. For example, just this morning a request came in to review a paper on urban bushmeat consumption from "Annals of Environmental Science and Toxicology". Visiting the website, it *almost* passes for a low rent journal.

@alexpotash I think so... Most of the journals well outside of my expertise requesting reviews from from MDPI (and other 'predatory') journals. Maybe predatory, maybe desperation because of their bad reputation?

Is there such a thing as a predatory review request? I got asked to review a paper that has literally nothing to do with my research field. My best guess is some algorithm picked me because the title used the word 'synergistic' which I also used in a title of one of my papers.

Behold, a grape-sized nugget of pure concentrated spicy nacho dust, worth more than it's weight in gold. @Doritos dm me if you'd like to add this to your Museum of Cornchiped Oddities 👀

@alexpotash According to my wife this very morning, this is not real. Apparently, some of the bands featured tweeted out that they had never heard of the festival, and were never invited to play.

🥳 Happy to report that the #rstats {equatiomatic} package now supports binomial and poisson regression models from `lme4::glmer()`! Give it a try with the dev version: `remotes::install_github("datalorax/equatiomatic").
