The point I was making is that the virus didn’t escape the public health measures — and spread into the general population — in the manner that efficiently spreading respiratory viruses always do even with public health measures in place
Amesh Adalja@AmeshAA

Andes virus is serious, but “can spread person-to-person” ≠ “pandemic-capable.” Even the largest outbreak (Epuyén) was self-limited. NEJM investigators noted some “possible inhalation” exposures—but that’s nuance, not evidence of measles-like spread. nytimes.com/2026/05/12/opi…

@sapphyreblayze A lot of us do, but our current HHS secretary has spent a decade convincing parents it will kill their kids.

Wait, do Americans not get the hpv vaccine? Because I've seen literally nobody mention it during the smear test discourse despite the fact that it lowers your risk of getting cervical cancer by nearly 90%.

@Isanthropia You're right the experts are "calm mongering." Everyone should panic and listen to randos on twitter instead.

We do *not* overlap in whatever he sees on here vs what I see. The only panic I see is from the actual experts dusted off to assure everybody it’s not Covid and won’t be a pandemic. The calm mongering is counterintuitively tense and ratcheting confusion for the masses. 1.

I personally think it’s a good thing that a couple hundred people with severe anxiety buy zero expertise are amplified into our feeds every day panicking about Hantavirus

It's not unethical at all @Riley_Gaines_ . First... Other than in an emergency, doctors have the right to free association. Second, if doctors believe unvaccinated kids are a threat to the rest of their patients, they have an absolute ethical duty to dismiss those patients.
Joe Rogan Podcast News@joeroganhq

Riley Gaines: "Some [pediatricians] require you to get vaccines or they won’t see you... It feels unethical to me. What do you mean you’re not gonna see a patient because they don’t have the vaccines you want them to have?"

@AlexBingham_9 @neoavatara @Riley_Gaines_ I was 4. We have no idea where I was exposed to it. I grew up on a ranch in a small town. That 3% could be sitting next to you at the doctors office. My mom thought I was having an allergic reaction to something.

@1goodtern You're arguing with an infectious disease physician about an infectious disease. Suspected cases are not the same as confirmed. Multiple people were hospitalized with symptoms who tested negative. It's a precaution. I'm not sure why y'all want so bad to panic.

In light of the #hantavirus outbreak, an important reminder: Isolation = for people who are sick/infected Quarantine = for people exposed but not yet sick Key public health distinction.

@ArtsyMarx1st You would expect them to be PCR positive if they're symptomatic.

via RAT test or what? a single negative test doesnt mean much when incubation period is 8 weeks long
HHS@HHSGov

All 16 Americans who arrived yesterday at the @unmc Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center (RESPTC) in Omaha after traveling on the MV Hondius cruise ship currently remain asymptomatic. Last night, the mildly symptomatic U.S. passenger taken to the @EmoryUniversity RESPTC in Atlanta tested negative for the Andes variant of hantavirus.

Had to go to work for an hour with the flu because #capitalism and so I wore a mask and I got one “Covid was six years ago.” And one “Do you have the hantavirus?”

@AmyWolpers @neoavatara @Riley_Gaines_ Nope. There has never been a case of anyone getting measles from someone who had the measles vaccine. It's an attenuated virus, meaning it's in a very weakened state and unable to transmit. Wild type measles, on the other hand, is the most infectious disease known to man.

@Camille24745832 @neoavatara @Riley_Gaines_ Very, very unlikely. Usually that happens between your first and second shot. The full dose has 97% efficacy and still requires you to be around someone who has measles. Hence why I don't want to share a waiting room with someone who is much more likely to have it.

Being a mom is beautiful. And disgusting. And overstimulating. And amazing. And difficult. And the best thing I've ever done. Happy mother's day to everyone in the trenches.

⚠️ A lot of misinformation is circulating about the current #hantavirus outbreak. Facts: 🦠 Hantaviruses are not new; cases occur in the Americas every year 🚫 This is NOT “the next COVID” 📉 There is no evidence of widespread community transmission 💊 Ivermectin has not been shown to prevent or treat hantavirus infection 🌍 Public health authorities are actively tracing contacts and monitoring exposures Concern and vigilance are appropriate. Panic and misinformation are not.

Can the Anded Hantavirus spread person to person? Yes Is it common? No Will this be like COVID? No This paper shows while its possible for it to spread person to person, it is rare and inefficient. Don't give in to the COVID grifters, antivaxers and fear mongers... #ap1&uccLastUpdatedDate=2026-01-20%2016%3A06%3A29.751%20%2B0000&rememberMe=true" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
