@abbbsolutley My best definition for ‘cult’ is being grouped around a living charismatic figure who delivers revelation. But how long did Smith have to be dead before Mormonism switched from cult to religion? Has L. Ron been dead long enough that Scientology is religion now? It’s so sticky!

@abbbsolutley It’s *rly* difficult to define ‘religion’ or ‘cult’. Most intuitive aspects are also shared by major religions: isolates you from outsiders (Christianity, Islam), sometimes it’s Good to kill yourself (Islam, Buddhism), has a tiered system of hidden knowledge (Mormonism)

So do y’all think Heaven’s Gate was a cult or a religion
