Thrilled to see FIG among the Most Popular Short Films on @Kanopy—one of my proudest writing projects from my USC MFA days, directed by the one and only Ryan Coogler. First on HBO, it found a final home on Kanopy. If you haven’t seen it, check it out. Still means the world to me.

@ChelloHouston The editor will help you shape the story, especially if you're new to comic writing, and usually they have teams they've worked with (illustrator, colorist, letterer, etc.). A good editor can help you put the whole package together. Indie editors generally have reasonable rates.

@ChelloHouston First, look at some sample comic book scripts. There's really no definitive format for comics, but there are def commonalities. Here's a really good archive w/ some templates to DL: comicsexperience.com/scripts/ Next, look at comics of a similar tone/style and reach out to an editor.

I want to make a comic book. How does one achieve this? Any experience comic writers with advice?

Ditch the blueprint of how you were gonna get your big break in Hollywood & just live your life, enjoy it, be with friends n family while you create stories you love and that challenge you. Throw darts. Give it your all when opportunities present themselves. Be kind to yourself.

It was a pleasure attending CBU’s Film & Cinematic Arts Festival this week 🎬, where several of my students showcased their capstone film projects. I’m also grateful for the kind shoutout in the latest CAVAD Newsletter 🙏. A great way to end the semester! calbaptist.edu/academics/scho…

This is your reminder to make time to socialize with your screenwriting homies. They’ll make you a better writer

Screenwriting friends: do you use CONTINUOUS, MOMENTS LATER, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING, etc. when scenes spill into each other? I see some writers use those, some stick with DAY/NIGHT every time and others drop time entirely in these cases. Curious what people prefer.

@AlexGPickering All of the above. It depends on the script and the tone/vibe. I’ve used SOME UNGODLY HOUR before.

@AlexGPickering For spec scripts, I stick to DAY/NIGHT. Never got a note on it so far.

Had a great session with my CBU Video Editing & Post-Production students, featuring guest speaker John Puckett—editor of House of David, Jesus Revolution, Homestead and I Can Only Imagine 2 (now in theaters). Many thanks to John for sharing his career journey with my students!

Writing is subjective. Thick skin is required. Sometimes harsh feedback is right. Othertimes it isn’t.There isn’t a rule book. Just opinions. Don’t cancel them out, but don’t take them as law either & make you doubt yourself. It’s a balance, submitting your material.
