Writing a spec is not only essential, it's FUN. And while originals may be the way right now, writing in your showrunners voice is The Job. It's shocking to me that so many writers, both seasoned and emerging, consider writing specs a waste of time.

I may be in the minority but I think new writers should still be writing spec episodes. Part of TV writing is understanding how to capture the creator’s voice on the page. Yes, you want to make it your own but you also want to make it easier for the showrunner’s final pass.
