Honest take on the Destiny 2 armor/power grind, from a HUGE grinder:
I love the idea of the portal system. I think a well-organized portal will simplify where to go, but also offer A LOT of comparable choices to grind.
I’m also fine with a gear grind. I still think the only thing that truly revitalizes this game - is a fresh restart. It appears grinding armor 3.0 is the closest thing we are gonna get, at least for now.
With that being said, I don’t think either of the things mentioned above are executed properly. There are some marks that hit green, but way too many marks that hit red.
I just got back from a 4-5 day vacation, and I’m just now starting to see more folks hit power 400, and they’ve been grinding since day 1 DLC launch. Normally, I’d be like, “Hell yeah! The grind is back!” But… I feel quite the opposite. Every stream I turn into: they’re running the same 2 missions. On repeat. It feels like 90% of the portal isn’t even being considered. And some of the cooler missions, and well-rewarded ones, are locked to a one-time playthrough. There just seems to be one thing that’s better than everything else. I wanna grind, feel rewarded, play things that I love, and feel incentivized. Not grind the same activity for 300 hours+.
One simple idea is to add more activities to the portal, then rotate a HUGE bonus loot reward (like 5 extra big power drops) between 2-3 random activities, that rotates after every mission ran. As a result, you’d have players choosing these options more, and thus, switching up the variety more, and then getting more than 1 or 2 measly drops for an activity that takes some time.
Another idea: why do I see no raids or dungeons being grinded? These are true pinnacle activities, no? I understand they introduced a “raid feat” system with the new raid. Good. Keep something unique like that associated with the current new raid, and make sure it’s worth the time to grind it. But all the other raids and dungeons? C’mon man. That’s free content. I think all, or most, raids and dungeons should be a priority source of high tier loot. I also think that a daily rotating raid or dungeon is an idea, with incentivized high tier loot. Low tier loot dropping from raids just feels terrible.
As it currently stands, I honestly feel little desire to grind this new system. The idea of replacing all of my old gear with this crispy tier 5 loot and stat spikes sounds amazing! But the current process of doing it just makes me wanna play other games. I wanna grind, but I don’t wanna hate myself while doing it. I want a seamless transition from activity to activity, with variety, choices, and massive loot rewards that make my time feel valued. I wanna create my own, fun path.
Maybe I’ll dabble here and there, but if I’m real with myself, I might just wait it out. I only expect the system to be improved upon, so maybe I’ll wait until then.
Take care,
Gladd

@All_The_Players @Millax @SaltagreppoD2 @MrRoflWaffles i think the big reason we used it is bc it genned supers well, when hob was too far for t-lord, not bc of the damage (I could be completely wrong)

.@Destiny2Team @DestinyTheGame really think The Desert Perpetual needs to be released on contest again. There were far too many bugs, almost too many to name - we had weapon bugs affecting multiple guns (Tlord, LoW etc), the slow bug affectively killing runs, rally banner bug, immortal eye bug for the hydra, the portals not working properly for damage extension on hobgoblin. These are just the ones I can name from the top of my head.
For the first time that I can remember the World's First Race was DIRECTLY affected by this, due to ANOTHER mechanical bug on the final boss stopping @Tyraxe and his team being able to clear, which I'm sure everyone at bungie is just as annoyed about. This bug was so impactful due to other teams not getting it at all, resulting in the playing field most certainly not being fair. This sucks to see not just from a player's perspective, but also a viewer's one as well.
There were more bugs that seemed to miss out on other teams as well, for example my own team had a bug in the boss damage arena where the poles/buffs would spawn in irregular places making it almost impossible to start damage unless we somehow guess our way through the mechanic. I have asked around, speaking to many teams that have cleared the raid - only one other team to my knowledge had even heard of this bug. Again, making the playing field not fair.
You did a really good job with this raid bugs aside, having 4 boss encounters that were all uniquely difficult made this a very fun and challenging experience. What I'm trying to say is that ALOT of time was wasted for many teams, and it was completely out of their control. It would be a shame to have to look back at the edge of fate in a year's time and having nothing to say but "oh it was incredibly buggy" and that "the raid race meant nothing".
You've extended the contest time for SD and VoTD before, and I think it should done for The Desert Perpetual because of the before mentioned reasons. Thanks for reading xx

Day 1 Raiding -
I want to start by prefacing this is a selfish post on my WFR experience, where I cover a few topics in no particular order. If you don’t care about that then don’t interact.
(1) This race proved how important it was to have multiple characters prepared for the WFR, and frankly there was just so much to do and test in such a little amount of time. In my opinion less then a week between a DLC launch and a WFR should never happen again in the future, if this is how the racing meta is going to continue.
(2) This WFR was my least favourite competitive experience i’ve had in any video game. My team went from pioneering the final boss (on stream) to being soft locked on it for hours before WF was achieved, completely ending any chance we had to win. When you realise that the environmental glitch we were experiencing that caused us to soft lock happened to no other team and transferred between our instances, it makes me question why I spend so much time prepping for such an uncompetitive game. I personally have an all or nothing attitude when it comes to racing in this game and I could care less about a placement other then worlds first. Knowing that this chance of WF was ripped away from us is heartbreaking and makes me wonder why I donate so much time to competing in a game riddled with bugs and glitches. Sadly, IF Bungie ends up acknowledging this all they can really say is We’re Listening due to the nature of raid racing so I hope if anything this can just show how important stuff like this is and how upsetting it is to experience. The video attached to this tweet is showing the environment glitch happening pull after pull, all before worlds first. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
(3) On another note, It was good to see less teams blacking their screens out, and I had a mostly positive experience doing this which i went over in another tweet yesterday. However I still think bungie needs to enforce some ruling in order for races to balance viewer experience and competition well.
(4) Since i started doing WFR’s in RoN my personal experience day 1 raiding has been pretty awful behind the scenes. I think this is important to address because it shows how uninviting the WFR community is. I’ve always stayed in my own lane and tried my best not to get involved in community drama, but myself and my team seem to always get witch-hunt by other teams which is really sad to think that this is a consistent experience i’ve had since i started competing.
(5) Lastly, I want to congratulate my passion boys for their win and note that this tweet isn’t to devalue their win, but to highlight some issues with this WFR and Day 1 raiding in general. They were in the lead the whole race and truely deserved this win more than anyone.
This will probably be my last Destiny tweet for a while, and i’m not sure if I will continue racing yet. Thank you for reading
