@ChrisImmelman I don’t think it’s a courtesy visit- the ZCC’s Easter service generally attracts between 3 and 5 million people each year. I suspect it’s directly Covid-19 related ensuring the mass migration does not happen this year

Outrageous that taxpayer money has to be spent on this.

@Mtiz @IamCaptainLebo @NgwakoRam @RLEKWADU @AdvBarryRoux The greater the risk of default, the higher the interest rate the bank charges. Makes sense in theory 🤷🏻♂️
English

@Mtiz @IamCaptainLebo @NgwakoRam @RLEKWADU @AdvBarryRoux Completely agree. Financial strength of the borrower is definitely also a key risk factor that can affect the interest rate
English

@IamCaptainLebo @NgwakoRam @RLEKWADU @AdvBarryRoux Short term loans should be cheaper because you are taking the lenders money away from him/her for a shorter period of time, but it isn’t often the case as loan sharks know that people who need money in short term are desperate and can therefore charge higher interest.
English

@IamCaptainLebo @NgwakoRam @RLEKWADU @AdvBarryRoux Normal rule: upward sloping yield (interest) curve- longer the term of loan, the higher the interest rate, because you’re ‘keeping’ the banks money for a longer time. But home loans should be cheaper, as the debt is secured by the house itself (a mortgage) = less risk for bank.
English

@BriceDunlop Agreed, man. I’m sure the article taught you a thing or two about economic policy that you didn’t fully grasp during your studies ;)

My favourite, absolutely laughable line from this piece: “Capitalist interventions will not solve the problems that our country faces. Capitalism is the problem.” No need to panic, our student leader has it figured out.

@PieterHowes Privatisation of certain SOE's with government retaining a share is definitely the way to go. How does your preferred political party, @EFFSouthAfrica, feel about privatisation of SOE's though? 🤔
English

@pejames @helenzille 'Everything in moderation, including moderation' ;) Yeah agreed, it is an oversimplification. I nevertheless think that the Premier's article should remind us that we ultimately want to strive towards those ideals. Identity politics should be a means, not an end.
English

@pejames @helenzille My take is that there is a spectrum ranging from identity politics to individualism. Over reliance on the former leads to unsavory scenrios eg Malema's comments re Indians. Over reliance on the latter results in not acknowledging past oppression. It's about finding a balance imo.
