Hi Keith, My second baby was born by elective caesarean (at Treliske, as it happens). She is now a thriving one year old. My first baby died during labour because we were denied the emergency caesarean she needed to live. Various investigations have found that anti-intervention, anti-caesarean views have contributed to the deaths of babies across the UK. Please read the Ockenden and Kirkup reports. The risks of vaginal birth to mother and baby can be enormous and include injury and death. Individualised care demands ALL risks are weighed properly, rather than looking at caesareans in isolation. I'm sure you feel/felt you were making a benign, factual observation about an abdominal surgery, but you have not. Instead, you've repeated 'normal birth' talking points that contribute to the deaths of hundreds of babies annually, and unknown numbers of (because they are uncounted) wholly avoidable injuries to mums and babies. If you would like to hear more about these issues please let me know. I live in Cornwall so it shouldn't be too difficult to arrange a proper conversation.

A woman has emailed @TimesRadio to say she is planning to *knit* the election result - row by row, colour by colour, for every seat declared - and I honestly cannot think of anything more wonderfully British and fitting for this election. Truly, an inspiration to all

The Floating Dock opened #OnThisDay in 1924. It was the largest dock in the world and helped keep #Southampton ahead in the competition to accommodate the world’s largest liners until the opening of the King George V Dock in 1933. The dock was sold to Portsmouth in 1939

Last week I saw a headless toddler pulled from the burned remains of a tent that was destroyed by bombs my tax dollars paid for.  His name was Ahmed Al-Najjar. He was the youngest in his family. His mother and two siblings also died in the attack.

Jacob Rees Mogg said subsequently that this was an attempt to try and influence votes" Right: That time when Jacob Rees Mogg acknowledged that the Conservative party tried to 'gerrymander' elections by insisting on voter ID

“I wouldn’t want to go to some museum in the middle of nowhere to find out about how they dry-aged ham in the 17th Century, for example.” A specific from my 14 year old about what he does not ask of the UK’s museums and galleries sector.
