@titn_455 @alper voltage changeover location between Zevenaar and Elten. There is no longer switchable OLE in Emmerich, so Dutch DC only trains can no longer go there. 2/2

@AlexMedia @alper If you go to Frankfurt from Amsterdam the train also does not stop at a border station…

The Amsterdam-Berlin train is deeply unserious and stops in marginal towns on either side of the border. As far as I’m concerned it should only stop in Amersfoort on the Dutch side and Osnabrück/Hannover on the German side.

@titn_455 @alper That's correct but for different reasons. Up until 2016, Emmerich has switchable overhead line voltage as well and the signal box had similar requirements. But the signaller in Emmerich had an extra button at their disposal to bypass the check. Nowadays there's a fixed 1/2

@alper Welcome to Germany... :-) In all seriousness, changing the systems here will be a big job. And it's the railway and this is safety critical stuff, very expensive. For a dozen of trains a day probably not value for money. Details about what happens: #msg-7584499" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">drehscheibe-online.de/foren/read.php…

@alper Not quite true: you have to stop in Bad Bentheim for technical reasons (change of voltage on the overhead wires). It's not possible to have the exit signal at Bad Bentheim towards Osnabrück show green while the wires are still set to Dutch 1500 V DC voltage.

The new ICE train after waiting on this for so many years, finally skips the 20 minute engine change at Bad Bentheim. It’s just a regular stop now albeit one without only a historic justification. Nobody needs to be at Bad Bentheim ever.

@ConnorAllenEU To be fair, this is a Paris specific oddity (no, I don't get why either). In Lyon you can get around with just your bank card - and the system does capping, too.

Anyone who has (tried to) buy a metro ticket in Paris knows that the French must be kept from 'developing the European Amazon/Google' at all costs. In every advanced country, you just tap with your card. In France, you download 2 apps and sign a contract with a state authority.

@nemefungus @rezztroalt Here in Europe that's the standard way of doing things though. The only way a termination would be with immediate effect is for stuff like grave misconduct. A reorganization needs to go through proper termination processes and just can't be done like at Epic.

I literally do not understand why they didn’t even give the employees a week or two week notice about the layoffs so things could be figured out They just immediately dropped everyone and cut them off Such an incredibly poor job, shame on all of HR, Tim, & the higher ups
Tim Sweeney@TimSweeneyEpic

@BackersGamesF Epic is in contact with the family and will solve the insurance for them. There is high confidentiality around medical information and it was not a factor in this layoff decision. Sorry to everyone for not recognizing this terribly painful situation and handling it in advance.

@liz_love_lace The railway still runs on these principles! A lot of modernisation and automation has gone into it, but the basic principle of "the railway is divided into blocks, and only one train can be in a block at the same time" is still in place.

@ZacksJerryRig And look at the amount of staff! At some point in the video, I can see 11 people in hi-viz jackets. Extrapolate that to all stations and you're easily looking at 100 people. At $36k/year (median) that's $3.6M in personnel costs! Bonkers.

Besides the fact that a normal subway could move more people more efficiently..... each one of these cars has a driver inside - driving in a straight line with no traffic. Elon promised this closed loop would have automated self driving cars back in 2019. (Six years ago!) FSD is nowhere close to being 'solved'. He definitely deserves that $1,000,000,000,000 though.

One-hour timelapse (60x speed) of Central Station during @SEMASHOW. This is one of eight (soon to be 14!) Loop Stations which operated at this awesome @LVCVA event. On the day shown, Vegas Loop safely transported 29,755 passengers.

ID verification for websites is flawed because when you have to show ID in real life it tends to just involve a person looking at it for 2 seconds with their own eyeballs before it goes right back into your wallet, instead of being scanned and uploaded to god knows where.
Bunney ✝️🐇🩷 VTuber@StardustBunney

I will die on the hill that I.D. verification should be 100% necessary for 18+ spaces. The amount of times I lied on the internet to gain access to spaces I shouldn't have been in as a kid is immeasurable. Unless you want helicopter parents, there is no avoiding kids lying online
