Thank you @GovKathyHochul for announcing that NY will opt into the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship Program. This will open a major new source of assistance for families struggling to afford tuition for their children. It's a major step in making their education more affordable.

🔥 WATCH: Boro Park Shomrim released video showing volunteers spotting a vehicle whose occupants were stealing mail from multiple mailboxes while driving through the neighborhood, stopping briefly at boxes before continuing and even striking several along the way. Volunteers maintained a safe visual while alerting additional units and relaying information to the NYPD, who quickly responded. Upon noticing police, the suspects attempted to flee, at one point driving onto sidewalks, before crashing into a pole. The three individuals were taken into custody at the scene, and a search of the vehicle recovered numerous pieces of stolen mail.

📺 youtu.be/FYwreLTX50A Store owners need to remember that people live in these neighborhoods too. After business hours and over the weekend, the streets should not be left looking ugly. They’ve had 17 years. It’s time to get real.

Both sides of the lane in the park are safe. Even without annexing the lane the people living there have more green space than most brooklynites but that wasn't good enough they needed contiguous green space and they got it because they are rich and powerful not because of safety. And the working class who had access to those Lanes during rush hour, end up paying tax dollars for a huge Brooklyn park that they don't have any benefits from but did have in the past.

@AlexRapaport @clairemfahy Making the public park safer for pedestrians is appeasing the rich??! Tell that to the family of Sammy Cohen Eckstein who was hit by a van by the park.

We're working class brooklynites interviewed for this story @clairemfahy? The rich have the time, money, and access to lobby for more of what they already have. Working people are busy trying to survive. So once again, public policy bends toward comfort for the wealthy and hardship for the working class, which depends on the roads in and around the park for inner-borough commerce. The rich live all around Prospect Park. Part of the unspoken social contract was that working-class Brooklynites, who do not have a vast park near their homes, could at least use the park drives to pass through for everyday commerce and getting to work. But they became greedy. First they pushed to close the car lanes inside the park, and now they want to close even more, shutting out the very people who helped make that privilege possible. nytimes.com/2026/04/19/nyr…

Calling this “safety” should not become an excuse to give even more park access to the wealthy residents who already live beside one of Brooklyn’s greatest green spaces. The tradeoff of living next to a major public park is that other Brooklynites must still be able to pass through it on their way to work. First the rich throughout the working people's cars from passing through inside the park, now they are expanding it to outside the park. nytimes.com/2026/04/13/nyr…

Masbia Relief Annex on the UWS Provided Kosher-for-Passover Food to Families in Need In partnership with America’s Oldest Synagogue New York, NY - Congregation @Shearith_Israel, widely recognized as America’s oldest Jewish congregation, is marking the first Passover season of its partnership with Masbia Soup Kitchen Network by distributing kosher-for-Passover food to families in need on the Upper West Side. The partnership, which began in December 2025 as part of Shearith Israel’s programming commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States, has quickly expanded access to emergency food in the neighborhood. This Passover, that collaboration takes on added significance. Approximately 100 families received kosher-for-Passover food packages to help them celebrate the holiday with dignity. About half of the families picked up their packages on-site, while the remaining households received deliveries directly to their homes through Masbia’s partnership with @DoorDash. “This is our first Passover working together, and it highlights what this partnership is all about,” said Alex Rapaport, Executive Director of Masbia. “For many families, access to kosher-for-Passover food is not guaranteed. By joining forces, we are making sure that everyone has the opportunity to celebrate the holiday properly.” “Overall, the @Masbia Soup Kitchen Network will be serving 5,000 families this Passover season. This distribution marks one of the final pre-Passover distributions and reflects our regular weekly schedule at this location,” Rapaport added. “We are deeply grateful to the faith community - so many synagogues across the city have provided critical support to help feed thousands of families, especially our host, Congregation Shearith Israel. We are also thankful for our corporate partners, particularly for food donations this season, including significant contributions from @ManischewitzCo.” The Masbia Relief Annex at Shearith Israel now serves dozens of families each week through a combination of in-person pantry pickups and home delivery, providing a vital resource for individuals and families facing food insecurity. As Passover approaches, this initiative underscores a shared commitment to honoring tradition while ensuring that no one is left behind during one of the most important holidays of the year.
