I’ve had this feeling before. Meta Hyperscape is making me think about feelings that I used to have around Polycam When they release their mobile app, I was absolutely addicted to scanning objects and we push the limit a bit and did quite a few environments But we always went back to reality capture for the larger areas When using photogrammetry So back to the feeling that this captured device is making me have! It makes me want to capture all of my spaces and my street around me and all the historical places I can. Now I need Meta to make it into a product and / or a market place / online museum / google maps competitor type place. @Polycam3D @MetaQuestVR @Meta

Over the last six years, Alex Harvey, co-founder of RiVR (Reality in Virtual Reality), has focused on developing photorealistic virtual reality environments used for training, education, and storytelling. RiVR combines photogrammetry, laser scanning, and immersive video to recreate real-world locations that people can explore and train inside using VR headsets. The company has developed systems such as RiVR Investigate, used for crime scene investigation training, and RiVR Link, which allows organisations to deploy and experience immersive content across multiple headsets. RiVR’s technology has been used by police forces, fire services, government agencies, universities, and private organisations looking to train people inside realistic digital replicas of real environments. Alongside training, RiVR has been involved in high-profile heritage and accessibility projects, scanning and recreating historic sites including Warwick Castle, St Mary’s Church in Warwick, the Lord Leycester Hospital, and Market Hall Museum. One of the standout projects, Get High with Russ, used immersive technology to allow a wheelchair user to experience the top of St Mary’s Church tower virtually after the entire structure was digitally captured. Through these projects, Alex and the RiVR team have been exploring how immersive technology can preserve historic locations, make inaccessible places available to everyone, and create powerful new ways to learn, train, and experience the real world in virtual reality.

Alex Harvey is co-founder and Creative Director of RiVR, an immersive technology company redefining VR training and storytelling.
