Meet Alex Winston, our News Editor at The Jerusalem Post. Over the past year, a coordinated cyberattack has been unfolding. Someone is impersonating Alex to target current and former Israeli politicians, government officials, and journalists. ​I'm sharing this because people have already fallen into the trap. The hackers gained complete control over their accounts, computers, and personal data. ​Here's how the scam works. The fake "Alex" initiates contact on Facebook, Telegram, or WhatsApp to request an interview. After exchanging a few messages, he schedules a video call, usually on Google Meet. When the target tries to connect, the link mysteriously fails. The scammer then offers a helpful solution: he sends a login page and asks the target to enter their Google username and password to fix the glitch. The moment those details go in, he finishes his hunt and takes over the account. ​Every few months, someone asks me, "Hey, do you have an editor named Alex Winston?" My answer is always: "Yes, and I hope you kept your information safe." ​We are still investigating the source of the attack. Alex closely covers the Iranian opposition, and we have seen similar impersonations of Jerusalem Post reporters targeting journalists at Iran International, the diaspora opposition network. ​Stay alert. Always verify interview requests directly with our official channels, and keep your login credentials strictly private.

In 1981, Ayatollah Khamenei injured his hand, and kept it hidden for decades. For me, it's a metaphor for his and Iran’s hidden hand behind decades of terror, proxy wars, and threats to destory the “cancerous tumor” of Israel. Now the hidden hand is gone. jpost.com/middle-east/ir…
