The closure of Grangemouth refinery was announced in 2023 when Claire Coutinho was the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero! She did nothing to save the refinery or protect our energy security. You couldn't make this up. It's incredibly brazen.

Last year Britain lost a THIRD of its refineries. Why? A Carbon Tax on industry that Ed Miliband doubled. We won’t need any less petrol, diesel, jet fuel, ceramics or chemicals - we'll just rely more on foreign imports. We must axe the Carbon Tax and save British industry.

There's a pavement near me which the tree roots have seriously raised up. One has to step over it. Many councils would consider chopping the tree down.
Instead, why not fill the area with bountiful planting and create a pavement bypass. More function and more beauty.

However I do have to disagree with the point about seconding civil servants to councils.
In fact this should go the other way, with council officers being seconded to central government to increase awareness of the real issues faced by councils.

A really interesting paper that would go a long way to solving many issues faced by councils today.
The statistics on adult social care being vastly underestimated are very telling, and failing to effectively communicate this are why council tax is viewed as such poor value
