This will sound incomprehensible to many people, but this could have been Britain. We could easily have become leaders in AI and space if we wished to. Instead we built an international welfare state.

Esto es el nuevo centro de datos de Meta en Louisiana, a escala, sobre París. No es una metáfora. Es el tamaño real. Va 🧵

If you walked up to your competitor on the street, wrapped them in duct tape and made it harder for them to move — this would be assault and you would go to jail. Using the power of government to do the same thing is no less a crime—merely less obvious and more shameful.

Steel has no nationality. Chinese Steel in American buildings on American soil is as American as apple pie... But what about when that was a deliberate dumping strategy to destroy the American steel industry? --- America NEEDS leading edge open weight models, but it's reasonable to ask: is China playing a game we don't fully understand designed to weaken our AI industry over the next decade? The equivalent of US Steel being forced to sell to Nippon Steel All of that said, I have a strong bias to *not* ban Chinese open weight models (at least not now) but I don't think it's as cut and dried as it appears on the surface

A set of open weights has no nationality. A model hosted on American infra and controlled by an American company is as American as apple pie.

@E_Bruxxx Crazy that for 20 years startups were basically coding SaaS and marketing. Now real technical skills are required, opposed to pushing bits and unphysical abstractions

Been thinking about how the definition of a “technical founder” is changing. Ten years ago, being technical was largely synonymous with writing software. Today, it means someone who understands the complexities of manufacturing, supply chains, physics, materials, controls, AI, systems engineering, government procurement, and operations. The modern founder is becoming extremely multidisciplinary. And that’s a win for humanity.

Hard tech has more bullshit traction signals than software lol. LOIs, MOUs, pilot discussions, "strategic interest”, government relationships, non-binding purchase intentions, joint development conversations, etc. Would rather see one customer wire money, deploy product, and come back for a second order than a deck full of logos and non-binding paperwork. Interest is free. Budget requires conviction.

This is going to hurt. A lot of drone and robotics programs just took a serious BOM hit, and the smaller teams are going to feel it the worst. videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-ra…
