🐾 Abandoned at the Airport… but Not Forgotten We can’t believe we have to say this… but please don’t abandon your dog at the airport — or anywhere else. On February 2, 2026, at approximately 11:39 p.m., LVMPD officers assigned to Harry Reid International Airport responded to Terminal 3 after receiving reports of a dog that had been tied to a metal carry-on baggage sizer and left behind at the JetBlue ticket counter. Airline staff advised the dog’s owner she was required to complete online documentation in order to travel with the animal as a service dog. When the required paperwork was not completed, the passenger was denied a boarding pass. She then left the dog behind and proceeded through the airport to the departure gate. Officers later located the individual at Gate D1. When asked why she abandoned the dog, she stated the airline would not allow her to fly with it and claimed the dog had a tracking device — implying it was acceptable to leave the animal behind and it would return to her. While escorting her back through the security checkpoint, she became hostile and resisted officers’ attempts to detain her. She was arrested and booked for: ▪️ Animal Abandonment ▪️ Resisting Arrest Airport employees and LVMPD Officers immediately stepped in to care for the approximately 2-year-old golden doodle/mini poodle while the owner was processed. Animal Protective Services took custody of the dog. After the mandatory 10-day hold period passed and the owner never returned, Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas stepped in. The dog — now affectionately named “Jet Blue” — is safe, in foster care, and will soon be placed in a new, loving home ❤️ This incident highlights: ✔️ LVMPD’s zero-tolerance stance on animal abuse and neglect ✔️ Strong collaboration between airport staff, TSA, Animal Control and Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas ✔️ That abandoning an animal is a serious criminal offense Event #: LLV260200007309

UPDATE2: Late this evening the Coast Guard published a new policy, dated Nov. 20, that re-establishes that it specifically sees swastikas and nooses as hate symbols - not as just “potentially divisive” and states that they are expressly prohibited. Importantly, it says the new guidance published tonight would supersede any other policies out there. We have reached out to the service to get a better understanding of these many changes that were so incendiary - and how they ever got through in the first place.
Tara Copp@TaraCopp

UPDATE: In a phone call with the @washingtonpost, the Coast Guard said it disagreed with the story and that it considers the swastika a hate symbol -- and that it would look into the new policy changes -- which remove it as a hate symbol. “We will be reviewing the language," said spokeswoman Jennifer Plozai.

Swastikas and nooses are EMBLEMS OF HATE. Millions of Jewish people were murdered and 400,000+ American service members gave their lives in WWII fighting to defeat Nazis. Thousands of Black Americans have been murdered in racial-terror lynchings. Pretending these symbols are anything but vile is DISGUSTING.
