I have no interest in the political messaging now being attached to this image and the video circulating with it. Having attended more than a thousand crime scenes over the last five years involving weapons—over three hundred of which resulted in fatalities, many of them children or committed by children—I find it deeply disturbing to see this material exploited for political ends or used to justify particular narratives. There is nothing heroic here. I cannot imagine a single police officer, paramedic, or family member who has dealt firsthand with the aftermath of violence and loss viewing this as anything other than tragic. Whatever the claimed circumstances, the fact remains that she has been arrested, yet social media has created a pile-on of support. That, in itself, illustrates how warped and exploitative online spaces can be—particularly given she is clearly underage, and with the full context of the encounter not even publicly available (as far as I am aware). It also raises a deeper question: why was she so brazenly confident in carrying weapons in the first place? Unless this was staged, the reality is she was carrying them regardless of any later defence offered. That fact alone should trouble us far more than the noise surrounding it.
