The planting is not cosmetic. Roots stabilize sediment. Vegetation slows erosion. Flowers bring insects back. Shrubs and trees begin rebuilding the shade and structure needed by birds, mammals, and eventually the river itself. Removing four dams reopened hundreds of miles of habitat to salmon and steelhead. Demolition is dramatic, but restoration is the real work that continues afterward: gathering seed, planting slopes, pulling weeds, replacing failures, and returning year after year.

Integrity is not a favour. It is the promise we made each other.

I don’t know if anyone still cares, but today alone 14 people were killed, among them my friend and his family, without any guilt. Even saying goodbye has become impossible. Our lives here are turning into a real hell, day after day. What is called a ceasefire is nothing but a trick to numb the world and calm the headlines.
