Labour MPs just voted to expand free school meals to half a million more children, lifting 100,000 children out of poverty. The Tories and Reform UK voted against. Only Labour will give children growing up in our country the best start in life.

This is utter bollox. I knew Keir both in Oxted, before he went to Leeds, and later when we overlapped at Oxford. He was never 'involved' with Militant - he was very critical of them - and he wouldn't touch the WRP with a barge pole. He was later, from about '87, on the editorial board of Socialist Alternatives, run by Ben Schoerndorf, and his politics were broadly Bennite, narrowly 'pabloite'. This is well known, never hidden, and broadly commendable, in my view. He was a lefty student, who was unusually hard working. Not a surprise. There is plenty to criticize about Keir, if you want, and lots to commend, in my view But this is nonsense, and I was there.

Last night, I was contacted by a former roommate of Keir Starmer. After our conversation, I now believe that he is the most dangerous Prime Minister Britain has ever had. Here’s what he told me:🧵

So, to those who say "masks don't work", cite the flawed Cochrane report, insist upon an unfeasible RCT, accuse folks of panic, and undermine public health on social and mainstream media during a flu/RSV epidemic... 1. Seasonal viruses may be "normal", but they do immense harm.

@PrognosticChats Did you hear Fergus Walsh on BBC 1 10 pm news last night say that surgical masks don't protect us and we should wear a well fitting respirator? My jaw would have dropped to the floor if I hadn't been wearing my FFP3 mask at the time. Not heard that msg on mainstream media before.

@northernassist Thank you to the guard who held the 13.46 Stoke-on-Trent train on platform 7 at #ManchesterPiccadilly just long enough for me to sprint along the platform from the bridge to catch the train today. 👍

If we can't learn from a pandemic, then will we ever? SARS2 is devastating, but H5N1 and others are lining up to have a go next... Clean the air, monitor, test, and vaccinate. Before it's too late. Oh, and ignore any US/MAHA/Reform party conference 💩. #vaccineswork 👍💪😇

Folks have been asking me which of the currently available UK #COVID vaccines are best, given that an older flavour, "KP2" is being given free on the NHS to the twelve or so people that remain eligible (😜🙄), whilst the newer "LP8.1" is available privately... I'll do my best...

@PrognosticChats Private covid boosters are £90 (at Tesco) and you have to search around a bit to find a pharmacy that does them. Many people will find it too expensive and too difficult to get one.

@PrognosticChats Interesting - that BBC article does mention COVID now - don't remember seeing that in the first version of it.

@PrognosticChats Yes I saw that article! Mentioned the menopause as a possible cause so I don't know how that works with the chaps or with older or younger women or kids. No mention of covid, of course .

The Sillitto House in Edinburgh. Designed by Morris and Steedman and notable for its 'upside-down' layout, where living areas are on the first floor to maximize views, while bedrooms are on the ground floor. Built in 1959.

Happy birthday to @jk_rowling. You have achieved a lot in your life, to the point where commenting on a Tweet leads to headlines. We all know that this would be so much harder without you & we will never be able to thank you enough. In fact, thank you is too weak of a word 🩷

It feels like a large portion of the world has given up on basic humanity. Have we forgotten why we should care for each other? Or why we should care for those suffering illness or disability? Our greatest strength is compassion. Not money. Not religion. Not weapons. Not greed.

@PrognosticChats @DHSCgovuk @theRCN @TheBMA Shocking, isn't it? It makes me very angry. I wonder if they'll publish their review which led them to this conclusion so we can judge for ourselves. Presumably not.
