On this #IWD2025, I want to especially shout out to the inspiring women I know behind #whistleblowing & #childsafeguarding who are speaking out in tough situations and shining light and integrity where it is needed. Let your voices be better heard.

R.I.P my big sister Christine. Just found out by chance that my big sister died. I never had a chance to have any meaningful relationship with any of my family because we were all separated and scattered across the Scottish care system in the fifties and the sixties when our mother died of TB. Every time I met my sister, just like my brothers and sisters she seemed terrified to get close to me and once I discovered the abuse she and my other family members suffered in the Scottish care system and I tried to speak out about it, it was at that point that the Scottish establishment and the Scottish government decided that I and anyone else who tried to speak out about the abuse we suffered must be silenced. Christine, I will never stop doing whatever I can to make sure no child in Scotland suffers what we went through as children. I hold you deep in my prayers as I think about all the missed opportunities we had to bond because we had been so badly let down by the fostering and adoption scheme that Scotland continues to deny let down so many families.

Heartbreaking watch last night & yet another #childsafeguarding failure story. With responses like ‘it’s below the level of care we’d expect for our young people’, it’s clear why it again took investigative journalists to ensure their voices were heard. bbc.co.uk/news/videos/c5…

@davesharp59 Thanks Dave. Best bit for us was seeing what the decision meant to those at the heart of concerns - there were literally tears. As you know only too well, these voices need better heard.

👏👏👏👏 Well done @AlisonMDickie and all your team. I know its taken a long time but all your hard work is paying off.. I have followed this woman and her team for a very long time and her commitment to child safety in Scotland is heartwarming.... Her question is so very important... "What can you do to ensure that victims and whistleblowers are given a voice to help end safeguarding failures and prevent these human tragedies?" I also have to say that @AshReganALBA is impressing a lot of people in the child abuse community and beyond with her determination to speak out and to listen to others. I remain hopeful that Ash can find the time to listen to and learn more from those of us with a whole lifetime of lived experiences, to make the changes needed to make our country the safest place we can for all our children.. The voices of the victims and survivors of abuse in Scotland must be heard... 🙏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 @gracebrod1e

Tears shed by those at heart of mishandled #childsafeguarding concerns today as SP Petitions Committee supported #PE1979 campaigners by recommending independent investigation & an independent national #whistleblowing officer for education & children’s services #childrensrights
