My mom ALWAYS put an orange in our stocking. We always complained about it and she would say “fruit in winter is rare, and you should remember that. That orange is to make you grateful for what abundance we have.” As an adult someone told me this is an Irish tradition, and that many families do it. No one else I know did this outside of my aunts and cousins. Anyone know more about this?

I couldn’t sleep. I keep thinking about the video of that woman burning alive. It feels like there are no decent, strong men left in society anymore. How can people just stand by, film and do nothing? Even the cop walked past without helping. Everyone failed her. Everyone was just walking past. It’s all so disturbingly casual. Where have all the good men gone? What a weak and broken society we’ve become.
