Thanks for your detailed comment, we genuinely appreciate thoughtful dialogue around this topic. At AllFoodUK, when we refer to “authentic cultural groceries,” we mean foods and ingredients that are often harder to find in mainstream supermarkets, especially in bulk, or those that are deeply tied to the traditional cuisines of immigrant and diasporic communities in the UK. It’s not about saying other foods don’t have culture (they absolutely do, as you’ve rightly pointed out), but rather shining a light on products that are frequently underrepresented or inconsistently stocked, even though they’re central to the everyday lives of many families. We completely agree, every cuisine has a cultural history. French, Italian, Persian, African, Arab, Indian, Chinese, and yes, even British food, all reflect rich, diverse stories of trade, tradition, migration, and adaptation. Our aim isn’t to divide or exclude, but to celebrate this global tapestry, starting with the needs that are currently underserved in UK grocery spaces. Regarding your point on dietary diversity (e.g. vegetarians in Punjab vs fish-eaters in Kerala), we hear you. That’s exactly why we’re building our offering in partnership with communities, so it reflects real needs, not assumptions or stereotypes. And to your last point, we completely agree that the UK’s openness to exploring global foods is something to be celebrated. That spirit of curiosity and cultural mixing is part of what we love and want to support, not fight against. We hope this clarifies our intention: to make diverse foods more accessible, affordable, and convenient, not to put up walls or label cuisines in a reductive way. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts.
