🇺🇸🇦🇱 Former NYC Mayor Eric Adams is now officially Albanian. He has been granted citizenship and has received an Albanian passport by a special decree issued by the Albanian president.

@FutureMartian91 @KySportsRadio Both can be right, that this is the way things are and overall it’s made the off-season completely not enjoyable. If I wanted to see contract, negotiations and people being petty about money, I’d watch the NBA.

@KySportsRadio I’m sorry, maybe this means I’m not a true fan (even though my earliest memories are in Rupp, and I never missed a UK game until the post-Covid cal slide), but I hate college basketball now and I don’t enjoy this. It’s all about money.

@cpb_96 @thats_bb_suzyn With how much it rains in Florida, and how humid it gets especially during the summer and spring the dome actually makes more sense there than it does a northern city.

@thats_bb_suzyn Steinbrenner field is way nicer. Why play in doors in Tampa I get it rains but like not enough for you not to want to play outside nor is the heat that bad considering they were playing there last year.

Pick your poison: (1) Your lifelong team since childhood is the Pirates or Rockies. Noncompetitive almost every year for the last 30 years. But the stadium is gorgeous. Even when the team stinks, it’s a great place to spend 3 hours of your time, bring the kids, make memories. (2) Your lifelong team since childhood is the Rays. The front office is filled with analytics geniuses. You’re in the playoffs about half the time. Hal Steinbrenner is openly jealous of how you can win more games than the Yankees with a fraction of his payroll. But the ballpark is a dump, it was obsolete before it opened, possibly the worst place on earth to spend three hours of your day.

@thats_bb_suzyn The shittier and more decrepit the stadium the better experience for me. Not everything has to be all new and shit. Winning games is what matters so yeah sign me up for Tampa.

@JoshMooreHL Coupled with our online presence I’m sure it has turned off good recruits. And sadly for us players who had negative experiences here will talk and their first thought will be some dumbass like Garrett being a dick. Criticism is valid, but often it goes further by hateful people

This reveals more about those athletes than it does the coaches, IMO. But it’s downstream of everything else that’s happened around basketball (pro and youth). You coddle people at every corner, the idea that there should never be criticism starts to take root.

Hearing that both Mark Pope and John Calipari have privately vented that UK’s fanbase has negatively affected recruiting since 2020. Other schools use the fanbase and the negativity against UK and it has cost multiple elite recruits.

@JoshMooreHL I agree with all this especially players being sensitive because they’ve been idolized but because Kentucky has a larger fanbase and it is more rabid we are more akin to mid market pro team than the typical college. The difference is we can’t draft we have to recruit.

@WildcatUKx This is all still so shitty to me. So they make money now that doesn’t mean they’re not still young people in their formative years. I personally was not crazy about getting Jasper, but if what Derrick says it’s true it’s completely uncalled for

Let me remind everyone that these "kids" make more money than most people in the state of Kentucky. They should be criticized if they are playing horribly #BBN

@rarerookies It only hurts us to go after our own players whether we like them or not. Regardless of them making money or not the base attacks on the players is wrong. Sick of seeing another person turned off by Kentucky.

What a flurry of information rolling out of UK recently concerning athletics. Always begging for money, yet spending it like it’s wedding rice. Heads need to roll over there. They’re fleecing Kentuckians from Paducah to Virgie. 10 free home basketball/football tickets for life?

And that'll do it. The George Rogers Clark Cardinals have won their 3rd state title in 5 years. First school since Ashland in 1928 to see both the Boys and Girls teams win the same year. One of the better games I've ever seen in Rupp Arena. St. Xavier 50, GRC 58 | FINAL OT

@RODERIC66700892 @EvanDennison1 Montez Gay for certain. Off the top of my head he’s the only one I know. But his father and grandfather both played on region championship teams for Clark County

In 1946, a local election in Tennessee was run by corrupt politicians who used deputies to arrest voters and hide the ballots in the jail. World War II veterans, newly home and fed up, picked up rifles and surrounded the jail until the officials inside surrendered. A moment from what became known as the Battle of Athens, a rare armed uprising on American soil sparked not by foreign war but by local corruption. The scene unfolded in McMinn County, Tennessee, where a political machine led by Sheriff Paul Cantrell had controlled elections for years through intimidation, ballot stuffing, and the arrest of political opponents. On election day in August 1946, deputies openly detained voters and seized ballot boxes, locking them inside the county jail. Many of the men watching this unfold were World War Two veterans who had recently returned home after fighting authoritarianism overseas. Having risked their lives for democratic principles, they were unwilling to tolerate the same abuses in their own community. As tensions escalated, veterans gathered rifles and ammunition and surrounded the jail where the ballots were held. After a prolonged standoff that included gunfire and the use of dynamite to breach the jail walls, the deputies inside surrendered. When the ballots were finally recovered and counted, the corrupt officials were voted out of office. The uprising led to sweeping reforms in local law enforcement and became a lasting symbol of citizen resistance to electoral corruption in the United States. The veterans involved later organized a reform government and many of them went on to serve as local officials, ensuring that McMinn County elections were monitored and fair for decades afterward. © Vintage American Photos #archaeohistories
