As a former CIA case officer, I saw the men and women of the U.S. intelligence community put their lives on the line every day for this country — and I am appalled at the nomination of Tulsi Gabbard to lead DNI. (1/3)

Small but significant tidbit. Trump really likes to do the “hand on top” move when shaking hands. Signifies dominance and control of the other person. Good for you @JoeBiden Good for you.

I asked about a dozen porteños here in BA about Kamala. Most said a variation of “we don’t have a lot of success with a woman giving orders”. #evita

I’m not sure what I said about Kamila being anointed vs selected in a truncated primary months ago. Don’t recall. But, whatever I said, I think we now know that Joe left the decision to NOT run waaaaay too late. Doesn’t matter tea spilling now. Shoulda coulda mighta…stop it.

@AJDelgado13 Often, the “straight” from AJ might give us a posit on both sides of the issue in the same day, er, hour! Definition. Looking now…Merriam-Webster…looking…A…AJ… Ahha, here it is: “see also mercurial, intemperate, passionate, snarky, cynical, loyal. Also, see Cuban.”

@AmBeachy A simple street thug. He’s not a heroic underdog…street kid made good. He’s not an Everyman. He’s not blessed with military discipline. (Any disciple??) And more dangerous? He’s incurious. An opportunist. He will be my President. I 🙏 for a calm steady hand on the tiller.

And @AmBeachy, Madam asked that “Ukrainian mum”question with eyes welled with tears. I always know she’s scared when from nowhere she takes my hand. Just for a few seconds. …damn it…I only wish she knew that I’m weaker than her in every possible way. Now I’m crying…

Madam asked last night “can you imagine being a young mum in Ukraine (who’s husband the software-engineer-turned-soldier fights) knowing there is a great chance that the American president will just give their country to Putin”? Me: no. I can’t imagine. Not in a million years.

Listen! @JohnFetterman is a skilled politician and has a unique touch. On top of which, he’s also very smart (with a grand education). Why the Dems don’t move him into leadership at DSCC asap is beyond me.

Any chance, @lxeagle17 you could indulge us with “will House go to Dems in remaining uncalled races?” in a way a 67 year old professor will understand (which is about same as a ten year old!) ?

A couple of things, as I see them: 1.) Trump won by a lot in a lot of places. That's just what happened. There was not one singular reason, not one neat trick, just a lot of factors all playing in. 2.) There are no eternal victories in politics. Trump has widened the GOP tent to such an extent that there are people who voted for him for precisely contrasting reasons and it'll be... something to see how all that works out (to wit: thespectator.com/politics/meet-…) 3.) I grew up in a swing state that turned red. A thing I learned from that is that most people don't agree with me or share my politics. It is useful to remember that more generally. "If only x had done y" is based on your understanding of both x and y, and that can be and is often wrong. 4.) I am going to be posting here less, and generally just about sports. I've been on this platform for sixteen years and I think that it has changed me in ways both good and bad. I also think that it has not proved to be helpful in understanding... anything. 5.) My mom is dying of ALS. She had a feeding tube installed last week but there was a problem and it was very, very scary. Being alive is good. Finding an interior life that you can protect is even better. 6.) There are people on here who will find deep validation of the stuff they already think in the results from yesterday. I think that is generally not how to think about politics. 7.) Culture wars are unwinnable and unloseable. The people who seem gleeful right now will become enraged in ten seconds because someone is going to do something they don't like somewhere. Performative outrage is a performance, but for some people now it is their life. Sad! 8.) Go Blue still means Go the University of Michigan.
