This is Tim Wise with 6 1/2 minutes of one of the greatest history lessons I ever learned. Back in 2014 when Eric Garner was murdered I went out on the streets with some friends to show support. Then the next year Sandra Bland made headlines and I started paying attention. Tim's speeches really opened up my eyes to the history of this country, and how we are still operating to this day.

This is pretty much what happened to my dad, the man spent 55-60 years working day and night hardest worker you ever would meet. 12-hour days owned multiple businesses over his life. We both did hard back-breaking work breathing chemicals we shouldn't, lifting things that had to be moved, rolling around on concrete up and under trucks and equipment. He spent his last 5 years with cancer, medical bills wiped out everything he ever worked for and he spent his last years suffering.

Below is a photograph of Rabbi Isaac Krassenstein.  He was my great-great-grandfather and came to America in the mid-to-late 1800's from what is now Ukraine.  He was fleeing persecution and embarked on a journey to the "Golden Land" of America. As an immigrant, he settled in New Jersey. Sixty years later, his grandson (my grandfather) would meet a woman (my grandmother), whose parents fled Russia for similar reasons.   Most of us have routes that stem from immigration.  Immigrants are an asset to this nation. I wouldn't be here if Rabbi Krassenstein didn't make that journey.  With that said, it's fair to point out that we need laws and reforms in order to make the immigration process safe, impactful and fair. Let's work together to do that instead of using people as a political tool to divide us all.

I did learn something new last night about politics. I have spent my life trying to convince folks that my views and those of my party are better than the opposition. But last night I came to the conclusion I will never again attempt to change the mind of a single Trump/MAGA supporter. Never. The audience last night convinced me these people are 100% lost. They cheered about Trump committing sexual assault and battery and malicious defamation. Then gave him a standing ovation for saying he would pardon all of the Jan6 traitors. When he called Jan6 beautiful. Again they clapped and they cheered. These are not normal Americans. These Trump supporters cheered for the end of American Democracy and for their leaders continued attacks on women. Anything Trump does is 100% OK with them. This is a dangerous cult who will once again use violence if Trump loses. These people are enemies of the U.S. and I will treat them as such from now on. @NewBlueUSA #DemVoice1

In case of the horrific unthinkable. School shootings have been their reality for as long as they’ve been in school. They are 9 and 13 years old. And this is all they’ve ever known.
