Uganda recently launched the National migration policy 2025. The policy has 11 components including labour migration. However, the funding of this component is very minimal as reflected in the current national budget framework work paper 2026/27. #fundmigrantworkerprotection

This week is about the #African #Women #Pastoralist #Gathering, a platform for women to share their lives realities and experience s, co-create practical solutions and identify workable mechanism for their governance. All these will be consolidated into a #APWG #Charter2026 #WLRs

A key shift emerging from the discussions is the need to reframe the narrative around pastoralist women. Participants stressed that women are central to pastoral systems, as knowledge holders, economic actors, and stabilizers of households and communities. This recognition is directly tied to calls for meaningful inclusion in decision-making spaces, ensuring that women are not just represented, but actively shaping policies, governance structures, and investment decisions that affect their lives. #APWG2026 #PastoralWomenRising #IYRP2026

Day 3 opened with a strong continuation of yesterday’s conversations, with participants moving from identifying challenges to defining clear priorities for action and influence. A central focus this morning has been how pastoralist voices, especially those of womencan shape upcoming global engagements, including Mongolia. The message is clear: advocacy must be intentional, targeted, and grounded in lived realities. Land security remains the anchor of all discussions, with renewed calls for gazettement of pastoral land, stronger engagement with government on modernization, and better use of existing research and past processes to drive policy change. #APWG2026 #PastoralWomenRising #IYRP2026

Maude is a distinguished Social Development Specialist and Team Leader at Quest for Development Consult Ltd. She currently serves as Chair of CEDOVIP and is recognized nationally as an Eminent Woman of the Women Situation Room. With a remarkable career spanning leadership roles at ACFODE, EASSI, UNHCR (Uganda & Namibia) and the UN Country Team in Namibia, Maude has spent decades advancing women’s rights, human rights and gender justice across Africa. As a founder member of UWONET, UDN, EASSI, and CEWIGO, and a long-serving board leader within the civil society sector, Maude has shaped and strengthened the spaces that continue to empower women and girls today.
