I don't think people are aware of the demographic tipping point that we are approaching. In 2024, 40.4% of live births in England had at least one parent born outside of Britain. Around 30% of all children 0-17 are non-native. Total replacement.

Katie’s right. This is absolutely mad. Guess who created this mess? The Conservatives. Guess which Government has just passed emergency legislation to clean up this mess: Labour. Don’t worry, Katie. Lots done, lots more to do.

Doctors trained overseas are 2.5 times more likely to be referred to the medical regulator for malpractice. It's totally insane that the NHS is prioritising overseas doctors over our most talented medical graduates. It's a terrible deal for doctors and patients alike.

@MartinSLewis How about people stand on their own to feet. We are absolutely broke as a country, and all you do Martin is push fantasy plans by the government and don’t inform people we’re economically broke.

How would the govt intervene to cut energy bills if needed? Its worth looking at the two previous domestic energy models we saw in recent years. 1. Liz Truss (as PM) reduce energy costs for all. The Energy Price Guarantee reduced bills by limiting the unit rates charged for gas and electricity, with the government saying this would keep (the then definition of a) typical household bill to about £2,500/yr. This was a very expensive route for the state, as it meant all bills were reduced, and by definition the biggest users got the biggest subsidies. Though it did mean everyone got helped. 2. Rishi Sunak (as Chancellor) flat help for all and targeted support. Before that happened there had already been support in place. It comprised a menu of help for different people across slightly different times. Roughly... - £400 grant for domestic electricity users paid over 6mths - £150 council tax rebate for those on Council Tax Band A to D (seen as a proxy for lower incomes) - £650 for those on certain means-tested benefits - £300 top-up for state pensioners - £150 payment for those on certain non-means-tested disability benefits. This was still costly, but not as much, as it was targeted, and the amounts were flat so lower users got the same help as higher. ---------- My suspicion is the current govt is more likely to look at the second version as a model for what it does (though it doesn't look like the payments spread would be as wide or as big)

@PeterStefanovi2 @SophyRidgeSky I’d rather not support. I’m tired of paying for it. I’ve seen my living standards dramatically squeezed. We’ve too many net debtors.

The government signals that any future support to protect families from higher energy bills will be means tested. Energy Minister tells @SophyRidgeSky that 'targeting people who need it most is important'

@PeterStefanovi2 @SophyRidgeSky This is a real kick in the teeth for everyone who earns a modest wage but is still struggling, obviously the poorest should get support, but why aren't we talking about a windfall tax on energy companies or a wealth tax? Labour yet again protecting the wrong people

Shabana Mahmood @ShabanaMahmood the Home Secretary needs to go now. She is an immigrant who is an ‘enemy’ to fellow immigrants. Her immigration plans are wicked plans that will make the lives of many immigrants worse. Her plans to make the laws retrospective are medieval and unjust.

@RupertLowe10 @cfdownes_ Congratulations. I really want a second child, but my wife and I are being driven into poverty due to having to support the most vulnerable, foreigners and pay silly taxes on everything we purchase. Our ages mean if we don’t soon we never can. It’s not fair, we work hard.

A very special first introduction today - my second grandchild. It is all of our responsibility to leave a better Britain to our children and grandchildren than the one left to us. We certainly have an awfully long way to go, but I still believe we can do it.

@Kimbiggs16 @KemiBadenoch I’d cut benefits for everyone. I’d deport all the illegals and most immigrants as well. We’re on the same page with that, but I don’t want British scroungers either.

The past three days have been extremely stressful and draining. The attack led by @SuellaBraverman @PatrickChristys and amplified by their followers and @GBNEWS viewers, simply because I want to bring my three children (all under five) and my husband with me during my MA journey, has been vicious. @SuellaBraverman, your own parents came to the UK as immigrants and built their lives there. If the rules you are advocating today had applied then, you might have grown up in India or Africa, not in Britain. I don’t understand why @SuellaBraverman hasn’t been asked to comment on my case on @GBNEWS . Maybe it’s because her own parents were immigrants? I acknowledge that deleting my viral tweet and deactivating my account after receiving a wave of hateful messages was a huge mistake. I will not hide. I will not stay silent. I will defend my rights that are defined and permitted under the UK visa system. Being accused of visa fraud before I have even set foot in the UK is deeply unjustifiable. My sole intention in coming to the UK is to pursue my MA.
