It is not only the separation of church & state, but also culture. Muslims see the Quran & Hadiths as the final word of God. No other religion may supersede it, the messages are not open to abrogation, which is interpreted for a new age, like we have done with LGBT issues. Frankly as I see it Islam is a fascist ideology. In your New Statesman interview you cited Afghanistan, for someone who has spent time there surely the treatment of women, who are on a par with animals, based on Islamic scripture, see Quran 4.34, must disgust you. Boys are abused via bacha bazi, women who have wounds from bullets & shrapnel are turned away by hospitals because there are only male doctors. The Catch 22 is that women are denied education in Afghanistan, so none can become doctors. Classic bigotry of low expectations, perhaps you are the racist? This is bacha bazi where little boys perform for men. British & American troops in Afghanistan were ordered to ignore the screams.

My trip down memory lane with adverts seem popular. This series of Spitfire beer ads would never make to the TV, they are so politically incorrect, having a dig at the Germans "Downed all over Kent, just like the Luftwaffe" & "have the sunbeds. We're going to the bar."
