I'm done with X again for the foreseeable future. This discourse around PlayStation and physical media is showing just how low iq the average consumer is and I can't deal with that being every other post I'm seeing

@NSuperGamerGuy I think the thought process behind game keys not being so bad is that you can still trade them, sell them, lend them out, etc. All digital won't allow for that

Listen I get things are dire right now for physical games but let's not pretend that game key cards are that great either. They still really suck ass and our only blessing we have left is that Nintendo still produces physical games for first party titles.

@PersonaSpeaks If they aren't producing discs they aren't going to produce a disc drive. Your discs will be unusable. If anything they are going to force you pay a fee to convert disc licenses to digital and likely lock the usage behind paid psn

This was a poorly executed set of articles .. This raises more questions than answers. They should have explained how people’s physical library will carry over into the next generation.

I think being upset as a physical collector makes sense. But calling this anti-consumer or fuck playstation yet there's no physical for PC games, nintendo game key cards, xbox has been doing less physical. Remember cds? Nope it's all about spotify. Sucks but its a digital future.

Here's why Sony is making the right call overall: Physical media is old tech, just like CDs and DVDs. It was always going to disappear. However if Sony wants everyone to go fully digital, they need to let us actually transfer or sell games between accounts. Physical discs are done in 2028 and that’s fine but right now digital ownership still feels incomplete. Game sharing would be so much better without awkward Facebook Marketplace meetups or handing over your login on via a third party site I had boxes full of PS2, PS3 and PS4 games back in the day and eventually gave most of them away. Now they just need to give players proper digital ownership to go with it. Would account-to-account transfers make you fully support going digital only?

@GamewithDave I'm done with PlayStation once they drop physical media entirely. I already have stopped buying much for my ps5 so it won't be a big change but it's still depressing

@chibigstudio I mean it's just a 3D adventure game at that point. I think part of the dna of a Metroidvania is that it's 2d or at the very least a sidescroller

@nilhya_ You are sure making a lot of assumptions in that statement. I buy physical and play the games. It's not a sit it on the shelf untouched situation. My mindset has always been buy physical unless it's only available digitally, though I have always hoped for eventual physical copies

I personally don’t care that there aren’t going to be anymore physical disc for PlayStation. I haven’t bought a hard copy game in 10 yrs. I play the game, enjoy it and that’s it. I never understand the outrage.
